One weird Thursday...

Image
It's a weird Thursday but not in a bad way... (Photo credit: Google) It’s a weird Thursday. Started off on the ground of anxiety for another big pitch that I had to attend and then some email that I needed someone to receive. I just got back from the pitch and as always, we killed it. I won’t be able to go into details but trust me, I’ll be here to share as soon as I can; I met Paul, an old colleague at Madison & Park at the pitch and that brought some nostalgia – I will never forget the incident that saw him exit the agency. The rain is falling non-stop, I’m still basking in the euphoria of my nephew that came through yesterday and the good feeling that came from the pitch. It’s 5:30pm, I can’t even go home yet; I need this lady to get the email so we can party and I also need to get home in one piece – remember I’m off alcohol for now. Traffic will be gangster today but we move. I’m not looking forward to the weekend because there’s none, I’m running out of time on lo

Mama... Na boy!!!

Image
Asher is here. Glory be to God. (Photo credit... You know na *Winks) Today is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it. I am excited beyond words for many reasons but the peak of the bunch is the fact that my baby sister put to bed today and I can’t keep calm, nope I can’t… We have a baby boy to welcome. My heart was close to Kenny all day long but for one strange reason, I didn’t call her. It’s not a strange reason actually, I didn’t want unnecessary billing, but mom called a little over an hour ago to deliver the news, I’ll call him Asher… Happy and Blessed! I was actually happy to see my teammates earlier today. Ese and Latifah weren’t on seat yesterday, and in fact, the last time I saw either of them was last week Wednesday. My knee problems took me out since then, seeing them warmed my heart. I have so much on my table and won’t be able to go further than this today but again, congratulations are very much in order. I am a big uncle again and I can’

If Mallams move mad today, are you safe?

Image
These Mallams provide solutions to our daily problems but if they move mad tomorrow, will you be safe? (Photo credit: Google) Something happened to a family I know quite well yesterday night and it’s worth noting, because we’re all vulnerable to this potential danger; Lots of things happen around us that we don’t pay attention to, we even encourage them until we become real victims. This family traveled and left their gates (by that, I mean their entire household) in the care of their security guard who happens to be the usual “mallam”. Nearly every street in this Lagos has a house or two that a mallam is guarding, we’re used to that and it doesn’t even bother anyone. I have to stress this; I am not making this post to drive agenda against the North. I am typing in pure English and comprehension or anyone’s interpretation isn’t expressly on me. I will not be taking any question off anyone’s misunderstanding of my post. Thank you. This family returned yesterday only to meet an e

Help!!! Some of my readers are after my life

Image
Some of my readers are after my life because they don't agree with my take on Trevor Noah but I'm not afraid of them. (Photo credit: Google) I’m scared for my life and it is not exactly funny. Some people on my reading list are after my life because they don’t agree with my latest post and I’m wondering why they won’t allow me to enjoy my personal opinion in peace. I wrote about not being a big fan of Trevor Noah yesterday and eleven people in total sent me death threats. Not like I’m afraid, they don’t call me Rambo to be afraid of mere mortals but hey, it’s not that deep na, ehn? Ordinary article shouldn’t cause fight between us na… That reminds me of the time I wrote about Miracle in Cell no. 7, apart from the fact that many people canceled me for a while, which dropped my viewing rate, some legit attacked me for my opinion but that doesn’t change my stand, it was an overrated movie. The time I wrote about Gist Lover’s blog wasn’t different, in fact that was the wors

Trevor Noah: The Soweto boy that I will never rate

Image
Trevor Noah has done well for himself but I'm not his number one fan. (Photo credit: Google) I’m not one of the biggest fans of Trevor Noah, and it’s not a big deal. His story is inspiring, and I respect his drive, but that’s where it stops. Trevor Noah rose above stereotypes, racial biases, and societal discrimination to become one of the most famous comedians, and I must say I’m proud of his journey; I understand a lot of ladies like him, including one of my exes, and that will always be down to his looks, not for me. He looks a lot like Jermain Jenas, a former Tottenham Hotspur player, and that will never win for me as an Arsenal fan; I enjoy some of his jokes, especially the one about a random guy bringing out snakes in an aircraft, he has done well for himself, and he deserves the credits he gets. I read his famous book – Born a crime; as much as the narrative was quite entertaining, I didn’t like the part where he undermined the Zulu people with his petty descriptions. Trev

The good, the bad and the ugly...

Image
It was a week of the good, the bad and the damn right ugly but we go again tomorrow!. (Photo credit: Google) The end has come to a week that brought mixed emotions. From dealing with crazy pains to experiencing the joy of winning a mega pitch, the week had everything in it. I count it all joy in the end to be honest. There are lots of things happening around that I would rather not experience but like I once wrote about, there is good in evil and unfortunately, maybe in lesser proportion, there’s evil in some good too. Highlight of the week for me obviously has to be the fact that we won a mega pitch, there’s no stopping us now. We showed grit, we showed character and we brought to fore, that team spirit that matters, but whoever knows Fola of Duo, tell him never to come to mainland. The lowest moment of the week came today, I discovered something I was denying all along LOL. My younger brother brought it to my notice and while I must admit that it is extremely hard to come to

Which of these are you opening first?

Image
If this were to be on your device, which of these apps are you opening first? (Photo credit: Biola's WhatsApp status) I saw this on Biola’s WhatsApp status the other day and opted to jump on it. I certainly don’t have all of these; I don’t use snapchat, Boomplay or TikTok, I’ll talk through the order of importance of each app on the average. There are instances where I’d likely jump this process but I don’t think it would be often; all things being equal, which of the social/professional apps up there would I open first considering I have messages from all of them? I don’t expect same answers from everyone but here’s my own order. If that pic up there were to be mine, I’m opening the email first. One of my teammates lost a scholarship opportunity recently by sleeping on emails; I know a lot of people that missed job opportunities due to poor email attitude. I refresh my email more than any other app and that’s on God! Next would be WhatsApp, I might not readily reply all me

All we do is win!

Image
All we do is win, expect official announcement soon. (Photo credit: Google) I got the news earlier today that we won the pitch I went for yesterday; I live with the consequences of attending but as I grew to know it, “ na where e hard dem dey meet male child ”. I’m elated and I can’t contain my excitement. I’m off work to allow my knee heal but I with confidence in my team that I won’t be missed so much. Unfortunately, I can’t take a break from keeping up with these 365 days journey, I have to find a way to communicate something. On days like this, it will be short and precise but know I’m not taking your followership for granted. Damola of Ontario tried her best to irritate me before I got the opportunity of penning this but I’d let it slide, omo wa noni so we move. I really have to go, not without wondering why I’m seeing stories of former deputy senate president Ike Ekweremadu in an organ trafficking allegation; right now I have no idea what the crux is but if he’s guilty,

I needed to be strong for my team...

Image
I had to find strength today and I didn't disappoint. Excited for the results and also prepared for the consequences... (Photo credit: Google) It’s one of those days that I’ll just come here to drop hints and bits and then disappear but today went well and I can’t even hide my excitement even though I’m in a lot of pains. When my colleagues saw me this morning, they were surprised I showed up at the office. some were even angry while Ohmar was excited. Dara was busy reeling out potential consequences but I couldn't care, he has medical background and he's our resident doctor in a "mad house" We had a pitch today, we had to come correct considering the dynamics, the budget and the scope of work on the cards. I had the luxury of Ese Makanaki, Seye the fly guy, Dara the visual demon and of course Titi from the other side of the flat and guess what? I don’t know who’s reading but I couldn’t understand how my buddy (Latifah) became my client overnight but it is w

When the call comes... Don't hesitate to take it

Image
When the call comes, please take it and send us pictures. (Photo credit: Google) The best brains are leaving Nigeria and we can’t do nothing about it. One out of every three people around is talking to a travel agent or seeking alternatives just to get out of Nigeria and if you ask me, it is what it actually is. They may not tell you, you know it’s a taboo in this part of the world to tell anyone that you’re traveling LOL like you’d jinx it for them or crash their airplane; don’t be surprised or feel offended when you suddenly see pictures or a notification in your WhatsApp group that someone changed number… The country is messed up, as hopeful as I’ve always been, I’m at a point where I don’t even see respite for Nigerians; the politicians are only about themselves and their families, why then would you stop anyone from pursuing greener pastures? I’ve braced up for good news from folks around. Siblings, friends and neighbors; co-workers, church members, “cathedral” acquaintanc

Life is fickle... Live, love and learn

Image
Life is beautiful but know this and know peace, it will send you lemons at random times... Make of that what you will. (Photo credit: Google) The other day, I was waxing lyrical about how beautiful life is, how dynamic it is and how we must be grateful regardless… My view hasn’t changed in that regard but again, life is fickle. As my left limb rest on the cliff, wide like a stripper on the pole earning his or her quid, someone sent me a message about an old school mate, he passed away on Saturday. It was his birthday the day before, I saw him laughing like it’s no man’s business, he looked healthy and I was even jealous of his leaps in the video I saw… he’s in the morgue now. I was just rounding off the Strategy team meeting earlier today, my teammates were throwing bants at me and I knew if I didn’t get off the Google hangout meeting, I’d keep hearing different shades, I swiped to end the call and a text came in, someone I saw last week, all bubbly now lies in LUTH, needing tons

They won't allow us shine on Fathers' Day...

Image
Happy fathers' day to every dad out there, not leaving out potential dads like me. Raise a glass to our awesomeness. (Photo credit: Google) After 750 mothers’ day, there’s finally a day to celebrate fathers… isn’t God good? No competition anyways. I will be reviewing some fathers’ day ads by brands on Tuesday, I hope you get to see them on my WhatsApp status. It's past 4pm Nigerian time and no one has wished me happy fathers' day. I understand they will say I'm not a dad yet, but they don't remember that when they holla at me for urgent 2k... I will be waiting for y'all soo, you will meet me here in Jesus name. Happy fathers’ day to that guy that survives on loans just to keep his family afloat; I understand your take home is weak and you’d rather an honest living than ruin family legacy… I’m proud of you and I hope the universe smiles on you pretty soon. I understand there are fathers that would make you question God, they’re not my target for this post a

I think I jinxed the weekend...

Image
It is what it is... Get well soon Rambo. (Photo credit: Ramsey's iPhone) I think I jinxed the weekend and it’s all on me. It was a quiet day at work, I was hoping the weekend would recharge me and set me up for a strong week starting from Monday but hey… I jinxed it. Scrap what I wrote about yesterday, I crashed my knee on the Duo Libra wall shortly after I finished writing and I’m in severe pains. Brave strong man in the mud, I hope I don’t have PTSD each time I walk in and I look to the right, trust me this is not on the Duo guys. Of course I tried to chest it, the point I tried to stand up twice and my lower back responded with stinging pains, I knew John Wick's dog had died on my hand and would need more than strength to get to the car... It was hard to take especially considering where it happened. The knee is badly swollen and I’m worried because the ankle has always been the problem but this one time, the left knee gave way at a wrong time and very much at the wron

Cheers to the freaking weekend...

Image
Is it a good time to raise some glasses to the freaking weekend? (Photo credit: Ramsey's iPhone) Cheers to the days we never felt like doing jack but we gotta keep it moving, days like this when White Walker and Schweppes virgin mojito handle the rest at the altar of vibes… Hours of multiple tabs on potential transfers, the window is wide open like the legs of the girl on the pole, Arsenal seems to be wide awake; I’m guessing Edu had a nightmare the other night and boom! Arsenal is doing businesses while Ten Hag of Manchester United seems to have hung in the theatre… Didi is flirting with a married man but it’s not my business; Moji is in her element today and whatever Latifah is on about working from the other end of the room needs to be analyzed, she was even hot-stepping the other time… Child of thanksgiving. Cheers to the decks we’re waiting on, feedback is the right lubricant for our engines and we won’t let the guys that bridge the gap rest – no rest for the wicked. I

Life is beautiful...

Image
Life is beautiful, do you agree with me? (Photo credit: Google)   Life is beautiful. There’s a lot to learn from the curvy lady called life, I hope you read me through my lenses as I will not explain why I didn’t liken life to “slim shadies”, life is beautiful. We’ve had moments we query a lot of things about life and existence in general, but a look around would give you reasons to be thankful, at least for something. Even at your darkest hour, there’s always a silver lining, maybe you need a grateful heart to figure, but there’s always something to smile about. No one will ever understand life in its entirety but the more of it you understand, the more your chances of being successful and, I would like to explain that a bit; your knowledge of your environment will determine how you navigate, now equate that to life… Feel me? I understand the complicated nature of life makes it tiring, for example: It’s about to rain and right here, someone is excited for it and I know a lot o

Bling Lagosians the movie... My honest review

Image
Bling Lagosians was a fine movie, it was directed by Bolanle Austin Peters. (Photo credit:imdb) There are movies you like, not because they’re all that but probably because it features an actor you like or the story is relatable. I like Bling Lagosian movie for different reasons but if I’d be honest, it’s not a movie I’d rate beyond 6/10. I saw this movie at the cinema the same weekend it was released, I had high hopes and that was based on the cast list. I can't say I was disappointed, I enjoyed it but there will always be something to discuss on the other side so let's just have it. Bling Lagosians was a 2019 cinema project that was directed by Bolanle Austin Peters. It was about the “fake life” practice that is synonymous with top Lagosians; the “fake it till you make it” lingo didn’t start today and if you investigate core Lagosians you’d realize this is true to them. I like the cast list, let’s start from there. Gbenga Titiloye (Akin Holloway) bodied this project bey

Super Eagles can get lost with their 10-0 win

Image
Whatever the 10-0 win over Sao Tome meant to these boys should stay with them, it was inconsequential as far as I'm concerned. (Photo credit: BBC) I watched as the Super Eagles of Nigeria decimated a hapless Sao Tome and Principe team right before their own fans and I wondered where that vigor went when we needed just a goal to edge Ghana and qualify for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Of course, I went outside with the clan from work afterwards to go enjoy the life of my head but I couldn’t get the façade of a result off my head as people started amplifying nonsense, celebrating the whitewash of a country that doesn’t exist on FIFA ranking… Nonsense. I watched the game with some level of agony. I am an avid football follower and it means the world to me to see my country at the World Cup but when the time comes in November for the tournament to start, I’ll be here rooting for Netherlands and fantasizing about what will never happen. I saw as the boys tore their hosts to shred

Apocalypto and a few other movies I can't forget

Image
Apocalypto was one hell of a movie, have you seen it? (Photo credit: imdb.com) I have seen Mel Gibson’s Apocalypto more times than I can remember and if it’s airing again today, I’ll happily see it again and that’s on God. Beyond the story and the picture quality, there’s this feeling I get from each scene and how I find it relatable to personal life scenarios every freaking time. It is the story of a lost kingdom and the prowess of a certain Jaguar boy. The second on the list of movies I’ll never get tired of watching is Mr. Bones! That was some project way back and I’m not going to be surprised if it’s the movie I’ve seen the most. There was a period of my life that I was seeing it everyday without skipping any part. It’s the story of an African king that desperately wanted a male child. The gods told him he got one already and needed to conjure everything on earth to bring him home. It’s probably the funniest movie to me and I can recount each scene without missing any. Sa

June 12: There's nothing to celebrate

Image
Democracy is a joke in Nigeria but we can celebrate because it's Buhari's last... Where do we go from here? (Photo credit: Someone's status) It’s the Democracy Day in Nigeria, a day set aside to celebrate the movement that granted us the supposed freedom to choose who lead us as the constitution allows but are we truly free? Can we say for sure, that since 1999 that the democratic dispensation started again after historic military abortions, that votes have counted and the principal officers that the people wanted have been the ones in charge? I’ve seen lots of ads by brands on democracy day and they’re mostly about asking people to get their PVC, and I’m wondering who we’re going to vote with the PVC when it is as clear as day that the battle is between the two parties that have failed us in the past. I know my compatriots are all about Peter Obi, but how many of these people understand how politics work in Nigeria? You need presence in every ward in every local go

My worries about the PVC concert...

Image
The EU is right behind the PVC concert, trying to help the youth to be actively involved in the election process but have we planned well enough? (Photo credit: Falz) I saw a video of the PVC concert at TBS and I worry a lot about our priorities. While I commend the drive of the opinion leaders in trying to make sure that more youths participate in the forthcoming election, the method is questionable and it might give birth to another crisis on its own. I saw a video of a situation at TBS that will most likely result in a stampede, if not properly managed, lives will be lost and lots of people will be injured; the government will pin the lives on the youth and the youths will find ways to switch the narrative to blame the government… There’s only one loser. Each time I remember how badly we managed EndSars, I cringe at a repeat of it especially when the advantage is with us; the goal of the PVC concert is to ensure more youths take the coming election seriously but why are they r

You're the best of your kind...

Image
Regardless of what is happening around you, remain positive and keep your head up... You're doing well. (Photo credit: Google) Today is one of those days I just have to address a topic as succinct as I can, owing to the shortage of free time to do this and premised on the fact that this message is important for someone, maybe me too. I understand that there’s a thing called humility check and sometimes, people like to play down their own achievements or question their own efforts; it’s okay to stay awake to responsibilities so you don’t believe your own hype like some Nigerian politicians. Take this from me today and let it be your peace, you’re doing well and you should not beat yourself over certain uncertainties. You’re doing great, you don’t have it worse and whatever it is that you’re going through, it has happened to the best of people. You applied for a job and they didn’t call you back? It’s their loss honestly, no serious employer would sleep on an intelligent huma

One vain Sekinat... The life of the party

Image
Happy birthday Sekinat Gaji, one of my favs from Rosewood Close. (Photo credit: Sekinat) Sekinat Gaji is a gee by all standards. One of those girls that you connect with on all relevant levels, someone that fits all occasions, real and down to earth… Sekinat Gaji is a special human. I’d just joined the M&P crew and was actually fixated on Halima because she was the warmest to me at the time but after the first three days on Rosewood close, I discovered the brother in Sekinat… Trust me, you need someone like her in your corner. Today is Sekinat’s birthday and it’s the right time for me to write about her. Seki is that girl that is never afraid to live; she’s full of life and almost all the time, she’s with the mind of her own and I’ll give you a few instances to give you an idea of who she is. Seki is that girl that will come into the office, looking like Amber Rose and just after lunchtime, the wig is probably in her bag and her “shuku” is all you see; trust me she slays ei

Tinubu's flawless victory evokes 2019 memories...

Image
Bola Ahmed Tinubu has won the APC presidential primaries, leaving us with another odd choices... Where do we go from here? (Photo credit: Punch) Once again, like we had at the last election and how it has always been with our political story, we’re faced with two choices; one is outright death and the other is life incarceration in sickness and pains… I present to you our fate at the next elections – Tinubu vs Atiku! First, I’d like to throw my two hands in the air in acceptance of my error of judgment. Up till last night, I thought Tinubu would announce his decision to step down for Osinbajo; I was wrong and Tinubu has emerged as the APC candidate for the presidential election. It is clear as day that we’re in trouble and I’d hope whoever wins between them surprises me and Nigerians pleasantly but the hope is slim. You need a solid party structure to win elections in Nigeria, one of these two will emerge as president and that is on God! I understand many of us believe in the m

Meme lords are the most underrated people around

Image
Meme lords deserve all the good things of life, I hope you find skin-deep happiness and continue to entertain us all. Thank you. (Photo credit: Cardozo's WhatsApp status) There are certain people that have walked their ways into our lives, to make us smile even in the midst of hardships and we hardly appreciate them enough; they’re like skit makers and the only difference is that they don’t get paid for their hard work. I’m talking about those contacts we have on our respective WhatsApp platform that post memes to entertain us. I dare say these people are the most underrated individuals and we should find ways to make sure their rewards aren’t limited to heaven. You too see: there are instances where you’re having a difficult day or you’re suffering from idea block, these people ensure that all you need to do is to pick up your phone and view their WhatsApp status and your gloom is gone because you’ll laugh like it’s no man’s business. These people deserve special love and

PVC and "japa" are not enough...

Image
Get your PVC and vote for the candidate you believe in, but I'm happy to tell you for free that PVC is not enough. (Photo credit: INEC) Yesterday was a little traumatic for obvious reasons and it’s getting to a point where people will be numb to bloodshed and other nefarious activities going on in Nigeria. I remember my last time outside the shores of this frustrating country, I was in a conversation with a lady from Sweden; she asked where I was from and I told her to guess, she said “you can come from anywhere as long as you’re not from Nigeria” … That’s how they think of us and you can’t blame them. I’ve seen so much of “go get your PVC” and “plan to japa ” on social media after the Owo incident and I’m asking myself if any of these two options actually solve the problems we have in this country, I can tell you for free that none of them is a definitive solution. You too see: some of the victims of the Owo attack were said to have come from abroad to say hi to their relati

Bloodbath in Ondo... Where is safe in Nigeria?

Image
Yet another bloodbath in Nigeria and you wonder if there's any stopping to this crazy turn of events... (Photo credit: Google) While shuttling three different PPT decks, trying to crack an interesting, yet challenging brief, I caught the news of the sad incident in Owo, Ondo State and the only thing that came to my mind was a question: Where is safe in Nigeria? Make no mistakes, nowhere is safe in the world but Nigeria is unbearable. You could actually be chilling in Canada and a wild wind will blow you off; they give all sorts of names to all the hurricanes that terrorize USA, the wild fire in Australia is well documented but all these are things men can’t control. I know other countries suffer from self-inflicted issues too – America with the gun troubles – but today is about the killings in my country Nigeria. A young man was set ablaze by bike riders in Ajah recently, a young girl was murdered by a mob all in the name of blasphemy sometime recently, the list is endless.
