For Rambo, it's a year of big decision

Image
Welcome to 2026, I hope it brings us all the best of our heart desires.  That familiar January gragra is in the air; the motivational quotes, the fake discipline, the spiritual enthusiasm that expires by Week Two. But relax, I’m not here to make promises. Not even to myself. I won’t be here as consistently as I should, but I also don’t plan on washing my dirty boxers this year, so by default, I’ll be here more than I was last year. Progress is progress. Let me speak in the language of the streets: “Last year was a rollercoaster.” LOL. Nonsense and Manchester City. Every year is a rollercoaster for you people, as if life ever promised to be a straight road. Even Dangote once burst into tears when Tinubu pressed his neck, so please, who are you again? Welcome to 2026. We will have fun. It will speak better things for me. I will break boundaries, test new waters, and challenge myself more. I will read more books, visit new places, and buy myself a gift every month, because nobody ...

2025... The good, the bad and things you won't understand

Image
Probably my favorite picture of the year; genuine smiles, pure happiness and hope for a bigger and more rewarding 2026. (Photo credit: Seyi Lantern) It’s been a minute since I showed up here. A long one. And what a year it’s been; dramatic, chaotic, occasionally graceful, and stubbornly human. The kind of year that hands you joy with one hand and says “manage this nonsense” with the other. Plenty of good, fair portions of bad, and yes, the occasional ugly cameo, because life doesn’t do edited versions. Last night, while recording a podcast with IBK and AY of Ontario, a question surfaced — what were our most iconic sporting moments of the year? Innocent question. Dangerous consequences. Because it immediately shape-shifted into something deeper: what were my own iconic moments of 2025? And just like that, my mind took off without filing a flight plan. Quick disclaimer for first-timers: read me for vibes, not structure. If you’re trying to connect dots, you’ll need a compass, a trans...

17th May, 2023 - My darkest hours

Image
One year after her passing, nothing has changed, I still feel pains and, I still have a lot of unanswered questions but, Valar Morghulis - All men must die. (Photo credit: Ramsey's iPhone) Yea, it's been one year already, and nothing has changed. I still feel as much pain as I did exactly one year ago, when the darkest of clouds usurped me. When the earth received my mother's body, it still hurts. I’ve tried many times to do this, but it is what it is. What a year it has been. There was no inkling before it happened, so there is no benchmark. However, it’s a different kind of pain, one I don’t wish on anyone. The 17th of May 2023 will forever remain where it is; hopefully, it remains the darkest ever until my dying day. The mood was obvious; Deepsea could tell in the car. Joy sent me a text message to lift my spirits, but calls from Ibadan informed me that my mom was on her way to the hospital. It didn’t take long for me to realize it wasn’t her usual attention-seeking dr...

It's coming home...

Image
Seeth a man diligent in his works, he won't sit with mediocres but with kings... We're balling at the table of men. (Photo credit: NMA) I woke up with huge anxiety for obvious reasons; I had a date at the eye clinic, and I feared the worst already, but two great news soon cleared the air and left me feeling up to it again. Sandra’s text early on helped me feel better and just after my appointment, I got the news that we (Riquesa Africa) have been nominated among industry giants for the Experiential Agency of the year award category of the Nigerian Marketing Awards, did I hear you say, “it’s coming home”? I am not one of those that say awards are for egos, please inject it in my veins because all we do is win. I was going to share another touching story from my eye clinic but that can wait. Right now, I’m only thinking about Sandy Mandy walking that stage to receive the award, we’ll shut down Cubana. I can hear pessimists like Ebere asking “what if we don’t win”, LOL I’m...

Happy birthday Rambo

Image
Happy birthday Rambo. Stay kinging. (Photo credit: Ramsey's iPhone) Birthdays can really deceive if one isn’t careful. The amount of wishes I’ve received today could light up a city and while I’m not taking any of the thoughtful messages for granted, I’m also sane enough to ensure none goes into my head. some of these wishes came from people who haven’t said a word to me this year, many I didn’t even think still had my digits and in all, I’m grateful and really wish I could do more to express how much I appreciate every single message across all platforms. Right, it’s my birthday and it’s one to reflect on the last year while projecting into the future. As at this time last year, I didn’t think I wouldn’t be married by now LOL and I’m sure that would confuse a few people but if “it is what it is” doesn’t answer you, let “we move” do. It’s time to get a grip, I’m going to Lagos Business School for executive MBA. I have been laid back on this for a while and it’s time for me ...

Letter to June...

Image
Dear June, please be nice... In your best interest. (Photo credit: Google) Dear June, Welcome, good to see you. Last time you came around, I won a Ballon d’Or, it was surreal and I still bask in the Euphoria till date, will you take a cue from last time around and be nice too? I have lots of expectations from you and I know you won't let me down. I have prepared for you and it's time for you to deliver. I know you're excited to be here, you were pissed that May had 31 days so you had to wait an extra day but it's okay... In your best interest, please be nice. Oh, let me tell you about the runner that handed the baton to you; May was full of different events and I enjoyed most of them. Asa concert was lit, AMVCA came with lots of lessons and also, it gave goose bumps to see our ideas in flesh and blood. Okay, May came with clients’ complains too. Maybe that’s something we can’t get tired of but dear June, be a lot nicer so I can write to you again next time you c...

Dear reader, thank you

Image
I can't thank you all enough. Thank you. (Photo credit: Google) Hello folks, thanks for always coming to read my posts even when I don’t really engage with some articles. The idea is not only to fulfill the 365 days journey but also to pass salient messages while engaging your reading pleasure. I’m doing “vote of thanks” today because I’m busier than third mainland bridge and will not be able to post a long article; but it means so much to me that some of you legit reach out to me when it’s almost evening and I haven’t sent the link to a post for the day. It’s also great to know that many of you don’t have problems getting links on a daily basis. This, I know for sure can be annoying but I don’t get complains, some even get angry when they find out I have a reading list and I didn’t add them, I’m really grateful. Work? It’s hectic AF but I’m not complaining. What am I working on? A major reality TV show is coming and I’m heavy on content. It sits with me and I have to do my...

AMVCA is done but the hustle continues...

Image
One of our sets for Amstel at the AMVCA finale on Saturday. (Photo credit: Ramsey's iPhone) Hello everyone, finally awake after a night of fun, glitz and glamour at the just concluded Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards. It was exciting to see the light come up on some of our works, attendees brimming with smiles while taking pictures at our sets… It was fascinating to see. The energy isn’t there to share background stories or run my own commentary on the award, the categories and the drama that happened at the event, I will definitely do so soon but not today, especially the part where Deyemi Okanlawon was heading for the stage to attack IK Osakoduwa… LOL. There’s so much to talk about from the event, I hope you are patient enough to wait for me to put my thoughts together on it but trust me, anytime it is, it will be a good read. Of course, I’ll be happy to drag a few people, it’s part of the script, right? My intestines are crying as I type this, that’s the voice of hung...

Latifah dragged me with my pressure ball

Image
Ignore the "dada" by the corner and focus on the woman with the pressure ball. I am stressed, hug me when you see me. (Photo credit: Rambo's iPhone) I love my job; it comes with lots of pressure and responsibilities. Working with people who are “ proud to be mad ” and leading a team of intelligent conceptualizers gives me joy but today can be called one of those days… Last night didn’t go according to plan but that’s entirely on the center referee, I won’t be talking about that; it gave birth to a weird morning but walking into the office took all the ill-feeling away, while half of the team remains in the field for AMVCA, the ones on the ground served me the required catalyst I needed. Sandra gave me a pressure ball, she realized I’ve been stressed but Latifah and Ese took it personally, imagine your teammates “ jealousing ” you. Both of them told me I will see stress and guess what? I am seeing stress in full gear. I had to step in to manage a situation and it “...

AMVCA 2022: My heart was broken when I saw the nominations

Image
I am disappointed that Ayinla didn't get nominated in any category for AMVCA but we live to fight another day, (Photo credit: My photo gallery) I haven’t said anything about the AMVCA nominations since it was released and you won’t be wrong if you thought I was heartbroken, yes I was and I haven’t recovered from the shock but I’ve found solace in the fact that I’ll be seeing my ideas play out at the event, fair enough. Err… Do you need me to explain that? Well, Desperados, Tiger Beer, Lush Hair and Amstel Malta – the headline sponsors are brands my agency work with, hence we’ll be activating the event from start to finish. Back to the point, I was shell shocked that Adedimeji Lateef didn’t get a single nomination for the monstrous 2021 he had and that Ayinla didn’t get a single nomination as well; I couldn’t understand why and for two days, I was dazed like I hit my head on the wall but again… It is what it is. Why would I think Ayinla should be nominated? The story was imp...

AMVCA 2022 is here... Shall we?

Image
The AMVCA is upon us, it's an eight-day event and I'll be busy activating with brands. I can't wait. (Photo credit: AMVCA) Hello folks, thanks for always reading my posts. I have been feeding you all scraps for a few days now; I know you’re expecting me to say, “there will always be days like that,” taa! You lie, okay, you didn’t cos I have to say that again… Sorry, okay? The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards is upon us, it is an eight-day event this year, and I will be working on the showpiece; I’m excited about it but not for the stress that will come with it. I am not complaining, by the way, just saying. Tomorrow’s first day is the opening day, and it is happening at the luxurious Monarch event center, Lekki. It will be sensational with Amstel, Lush, and Moet fighting for attention, you know where my loyalty lies? Amstel and Nigerian Breweries… Day two is for fashion, happening at the Balmoral convention center, Monday is for the Multichoice Talent Factory; I ...
