How do people thrive in chaos?

Image
What is the urge to share bad news to people? Why do people thrive on chaos? (Photo credit: Google) No matter how things play out, I insist that I’m not going to continue this journey after tomorrow; things are coming up in a way and topics are springing up but the devil is a stinking liar, tomorrow is the end of this journey and I can finally go wash my boxers. Was going to write about Lawal Abiodun Kazeem (LAK) today but I guess bad things happen to bad people, it means he won’t get to feature on this space. Tomorrow is taken already, it’s my favorite uncle’s birthday and I have to give him the honors. Today, I’ll reiterate something I mentioned on this space not too long ago; it was about Socrates’ information sieve and I hope you learn a thing or two in case you missed it the first time. When you hear some kinda information, what do you do? Run off and spread it or investigate? Many times, we’ve seen promising relationships ruined at the altar of unverified rumors and t...

Panda's wife and the memories of Tinubu Road

Image
Happy birthday beautiful and uber-smart Toyin Adepegba, my good friend from Tinubu Road. (Photo credit: Toyin's WhatsApp status) Toyin Adepegba is 40 today, today is also my parents’ wedding anniversary and it evokes some nostalgia from way back. I remember how they celebrated one particular year, that shit made me start thinking of getting married at just 10… Look at me now LOL. This post is about Toyin, a great human by all standards. She was my first friend at Brand Regimen, she knows her job and has this drive that won’t let her settle for anything below her standards. Let me share a few things I copped from here during our days as colleagues. Toyin was the Business Development Manager at BR and later had to fill in when there was a gap on one of the Account Management Team, one measure of her success in that role as far as I saw was how good Joy became as her protégé, that counts for a lot. While I was the lead on decks and strategy plans, Toyin offered solid outlets o...

#HorribleBosses: Ebun needs help

Image
Minister of "F" word affairs, Ebun Okubanjo tearing into someone as usual. (Photo credit: Bento) Going through the #HorribleBosses thread, I can only be grateful to God because I can’t relate and I’ve worked with tons of bosses and line managers, I’ve had the best of them and while many recount their pains, I should count my blessings too. I must state categorically that I’m a very annoying person, which I’m not sorry for, I’ve had amazing teammates all around, from Insight, to Eslia, To Niche IMC, to X3m Ideas, to Madison & Park, to BR and even my own Intelligence Republic. I had an offer to join Bento before I went to Mad & Park, thank God I dodged that bullet because how in the world was I supposed to work with such a toxic ass human? How do you scream down everyone at every opportunity? To what end? I’ve always maintained that if you have to shout to win an argument, it means you don’t have a point. I am not passing judgment on social media trial basis, th...

I wish Yakubu well but I won't forgive him

Image
Look at them, from L-R. FM, Olumide, Yakubu, Gbemisola and Benneth. (Photo credit: Chinasa) One thing my job has taught me is that people always leave. It hurts when some do and it’s just good riddance when others do, I’m one hell of an emotional being, I’m not an enemy of progress so anyone can go find fulfilment elsewhere but I won’t forgive Yakubu. Wale Awonusi’s exit at M&P would have been my biggest miss but I left before him, I probably would have cried cos he was my sidekick at work, not like his way was that pure, but he’s the most professional I’ve ever worked with and boy, dude knows his job. When Toyin Adepegba told me she was leaving BR, a part of me froze; you know how it feels to lose someone that gives ideas, she’s energetic and always the life of the party, coming out of the blues to announce departure hurts but I could understand hers… LAK has always been slippery, I will keep his story till the day I decide to write about him, Odia was never a BR kinda...

Things that turn me off at work

Image
There are a few things that turn me off at work, and if I don't talk about them, who will? (Photo credit: Google) A couple of days ago I talked about my muse at work, my steamy hot coffee, the coke bottle body ladies that remind me of the essence of life and the content of my hipflask, I think it’s okay to talk about one or two things that turn me off at work and hope someone can relate. There are two sides to a coin, right? And if there are things that make the work place fun for me, there should also be certain things that do the opposite. It’s never going to be the same for everyone as we’re not wired the same way, so to each his or her own. In case you missed it, I talked about the fact that I like to bring energy to the work place, positive vibes only and regardless of what the situation is, let’s keep the music playing and optimism high, that’s the only way we can win. In that regard, it turns me off when someone on the team is killing the vibe, especially with mood s...
