Shey these skit makers dey whine me ni?

Image
The talent pool available to us as Nigerians is heartwarming but are these people as rich as their lifestyles suggest? (Photo credit: Pulse NG) Today, I choose to demystify another perception and trust me, I know for sure that it’s not hearsay or assumptions; it will help you to stop seeing yourself as a failure or probably think some people have it better. You must have seen skit makers lounging and swiping cards everywhere like they’re the richest in town, announcing new houses at Banana and highbrow areas and you wonder if you’re scissors or teaspoon, my dear, listen to me like you’re listening to all those CAC revivalists, all na lie! I am quite close to a number of them and I have people that know many of them, there’s no industry with a faux lifestyle like Nigerian entertainment and the height of it all is the skit-making/content creation arm; only a handful of them made money from content and I’ll walk you through what I mean. Again, this is not me trying to play dow...

Outside shedibalabala... Hymns give me joy?

Image
There was a time in my life I used to be like this. Lining up to sing hymns and special numbers. I'm back to Jesus tho. (Photo credit: Google) Forget the part of me that can’t stop leaning towards “ shedibalabala ” and what Desperados has turned me to but forget, I’m a Jesus baby and I’ll die on that hill. You can “ yinmu ” from today till tomorrow, it won’t change the fact that I’m a child of God and certain things appeal to me beyond worldly nonsense. The past few days have been challenging and that’s basically on health grounds. My back problems came around again and of course, my ankle usually responds to it. One thing that keeps me going is the serenity that comes with hymns. I love singing or hearing hymns. One thing that works perfectly as my muse outside Jane Mena and all those things you’re thinking is the CAC Hymn Book. E shock you? My guy don’t dull, I’m very big on Christ Apostolic Church hymns and I can tell you for free that you can get me anytime through hymns....

Are we over-reliant on prayers?

Image
I can tell you for free that payer works, but aren't we becoming over reliant on prayers? (Photo credit: Google) I was raised in a CAC family and if you know anything about me at all, you’d know I don’t joke with the place of prayers, in fact my 6:30am to 7:45am is forever dedicated to next level prayers with Harvesters, but having looked at lots of people and how they do things, I’m tempted to ask a crazy question. I said crazy because in this part of the world, especially as a Christian, you’re not allowed to question any religious beliefs, but I’m asking objectively, are we over reliant on prayers? Not sure I can survive without communication with God in praise, worship and prayers, but are we overdoing things? You too see. A friend called me on my way back from work yesterday evening and shared what’s going on with her mother with me; she’s been ill for a while and it borders around bladder problems. I asked her about what the doctors are saying and she said her mother is...

My church's Choirmaster

Image
Behold, Isaac Adekunbi, a big brother and friend. One of those I can truly call a leader of men. (Photo credit: Facebook) It was my first day at the church, my neighbor had told me a whole lot about the prayers and not like I needed the information, as my background was deeply rooted in CAC, proximity already played the needed influence so it was more like fuel and lighter. 4 th of January 2015, I was starting a new job the next day I think and most people in my shoes would consider a prayerful start, it was a big leap but a story for another day. It was a revival, a customary thing at the start of the year in the church, I enjoyed it and I knew from that point I’d be attending the church from then on. I wriggled through the crowd, got downstairs but had to stand aside to allow the traffic subside, I was spotting an Arsenal jersey, a guy in Chelsea jersey tapped me on the chest, he tried bragging a bit which is what they’re known for, he helped me to a seat behind two ladies...
