My favorite uncle, a product of grace

Image
Happy birthday great guy. I hope you find joy in everything that matters to you. (Photo credit: Mobolaji Gold) There’s only one human that can make me do this, it’s a day I set aside to brag, to remind y’all of the consistency that I’ve achieved on this space, and to tell a story of how amazing my 2022 has been but this man will make that wait, we call him Hulk. Abiodun Hulk Opawole is my favorite uncle, he gave me a second chance in 2008 and the rest is history. I learned a lot from him during that time and while I wish things panned out differently with his wife, the tutorial I got from both of them shaped the man that I have become. Hulk was painted as a rebel to us while we were growing up but he came around during one of our holidays in 2005 and he gave all of us fifty Naira each, whatever it was that Baba Opa said after that day fell on deaf ears, yes I was happily bought and I hope that makes you happy. I had my episode in 2008, everyone was pouring words on me and I will ...

How do people thrive in chaos?

Image
What is the urge to share bad news to people? Why do people thrive on chaos? (Photo credit: Google) No matter how things play out, I insist that I’m not going to continue this journey after tomorrow; things are coming up in a way and topics are springing up but the devil is a stinking liar, tomorrow is the end of this journey and I can finally go wash my boxers. Was going to write about Lawal Abiodun Kazeem (LAK) today but I guess bad things happen to bad people, it means he won’t get to feature on this space. Tomorrow is taken already, it’s my favorite uncle’s birthday and I have to give him the honors. Today, I’ll reiterate something I mentioned on this space not too long ago; it was about Socrates’ information sieve and I hope you learn a thing or two in case you missed it the first time. When you hear some kinda information, what do you do? Run off and spread it or investigate? Many times, we’ve seen promising relationships ruined at the altar of unverified rumors and t...

My first ever Chinese restaurant experience

Image
I understand the concept of individual differences but kindly excuse me from your Chinese restaurant dates. Thank you and God bless. (Photo credit: Yin Yang) I have a very volatile tummy, I eat on average once a day, and those that know me know how toxic the relationship between me and food is but my first experience of Chinese food left me with a phobia that I have never been able to overcome. Precious and I were at Yin Yang on Friday, I made sure I clinically avoided eating anything because I wasn’t about to make my weekend a horrible one with a running stomach as I didn’t trust my tummy enough to handle whatever the Chinese restaurant had to offer. This first experience dates back to sometime in 2008. I attended a meeting with my uncle Hulk somewhere in Maryland and after he was done with the meeting, his host asked we stopped by a nearby restaurant; on that fateful day, their pick was a Chinese restaurant on Mobolaji Bank-Anthony. My uncle enjoys throwing shades, it run...

Caught in-between! The agony of a hurting nephew

Image
Yesterday was a really bad day and none of the reasons was my fault, but I live with it regardless knowing tomorrow will speak better things. (Photo credit: Google) Yesterday didn’t go according to plan for many reasons; trust me, none of them was down to me, but I can’t even explain in detail. There will always be moments like that, not exactly pleasant, but again… It is what it is. I woke up with lots of optimism despite fears hovering around; I knew what was coming on one front but knew nothing about the multiplier effect, to stop speaking in parables; I was expecting a scan result from the physio and also approval for a request from an uncle and an aunt. Let me be quick to explain that the uncle and aunt are a couple, or are they? Well, to me, they are, and I honestly don’t care about what the court thinks. Picture this; the uncle thinks I’m the mole that furnishes the aunt with information, while the aunt thinks I’m the tool the uncle is using to gather information, omo!...
