For Rambo, it's a year of big decision

Image
Welcome to 2026, I hope it brings us all the best of our heart desires.  That familiar January gragra is in the air; the motivational quotes, the fake discipline, the spiritual enthusiasm that expires by Week Two. But relax, I’m not here to make promises. Not even to myself. I won’t be here as consistently as I should, but I also don’t plan on washing my dirty boxers this year, so by default, I’ll be here more than I was last year. Progress is progress. Let me speak in the language of the streets: “Last year was a rollercoaster.” LOL. Nonsense and Manchester City. Every year is a rollercoaster for you people, as if life ever promised to be a straight road. Even Dangote once burst into tears when Tinubu pressed his neck, so please, who are you again? Welcome to 2026. We will have fun. It will speak better things for me. I will break boundaries, test new waters, and challenge myself more. I will read more books, visit new places, and buy myself a gift every month, because nobody ...

2025... The good, the bad and things you won't understand

Image
Probably my favorite picture of the year; genuine smiles, pure happiness and hope for a bigger and more rewarding 2026. (Photo credit: Seyi Lantern) It’s been a minute since I showed up here. A long one. And what a year it’s been; dramatic, chaotic, occasionally graceful, and stubbornly human. The kind of year that hands you joy with one hand and says “manage this nonsense” with the other. Plenty of good, fair portions of bad, and yes, the occasional ugly cameo, because life doesn’t do edited versions. Last night, while recording a podcast with IBK and AY of Ontario, a question surfaced — what were our most iconic sporting moments of the year? Innocent question. Dangerous consequences. Because it immediately shape-shifted into something deeper: what were my own iconic moments of 2025? And just like that, my mind took off without filing a flight plan. Quick disclaimer for first-timers: read me for vibes, not structure. If you’re trying to connect dots, you’ll need a compass, a trans...

17th May, 2023 - My darkest hours

Image
One year after her passing, nothing has changed, I still feel pains and, I still have a lot of unanswered questions but, Valar Morghulis - All men must die. (Photo credit: Ramsey's iPhone) Yea, it's been one year already, and nothing has changed. I still feel as much pain as I did exactly one year ago, when the darkest of clouds usurped me. When the earth received my mother's body, it still hurts. I’ve tried many times to do this, but it is what it is. What a year it has been. There was no inkling before it happened, so there is no benchmark. However, it’s a different kind of pain, one I don’t wish on anyone. The 17th of May 2023 will forever remain where it is; hopefully, it remains the darkest ever until my dying day. The mood was obvious; Deepsea could tell in the car. Joy sent me a text message to lift my spirits, but calls from Ibadan informed me that my mom was on her way to the hospital. It didn’t take long for me to realize it wasn’t her usual attention-seeking dr...

The pressure is getting "werser"

Image
Sometimes, you need a time out, play with seashells or pebbles, view azimuth, or talk to someone, whatever you choose to do, come back a better person. (Photo credit: Google) Okay! Someone told me I only come here to rant whenever I want to shade someone LOL, that's arrant nonsense and spices; it’s my safe space, my own personal status, where I can update my feelings with zero respect for how anyone feels. You can stop reading now. There’s nothing to act about here this time; it’s just me trying to burn some mental calories. It’s been a tough season, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to ease up soon. We prayed for days like this; how dare anyone complain? I feel for my teammates; MG is used to the madness; he didn’t get MVP to come crying at demonic workloads; I don’t even care about his feelings, but Eniafe was thrown into the deep, no induction, no breather, straight into the deep ends, swim or sink, but it is what it is. It was a week that tested my resolve. I had to remind...

The Hunter is giving up on the antelope...

Image
Bruised and battered, safe in the hands of the Hunter but what happens to the brave animal if the healer leaves without looking back? (Photo credit: Google) Life is only truly beautiful when our fates are in our own hands: days of sunshine, fascinating colors of the rainbow (not the ones adopted by the El Jibiti people), and the happiness that comes with vulnerable love, pure like rain, in its truest form. Clear those goosebumps; it's bad news. Not without a fight, but the hunter is giving up on the wounded antelope. The latter was last seen beaming with sheepish smiles, celebrating another chance, ready to roam the wild but with the bells of the hunter around the neck, still ailing but in high spirits. Every human has an elastic limit; regardless of those pretty smiles, papering over heartbreaks, and frustrating cracks, every one of us has the right to throw in the towel when our corners catch fire. It’s probably the worst news to anyone in this particular shoe, but I can unders...

We go again!

Image
This new year, do you, be more and most importantly, "no gree for failure". Happy New Year from me and my dirty boxers to you and yours. (Photo credit: Google) Hello everyone, it’s my first post in this space this year, and I promise it won’t be the last. I delivered next to nothing here last year on purpose, to be honest, but I’ll do better this year. I wrote a lot last year, more commercial than for personal pleasure. Besides, it was a hell of an emotional year, and I didn’t want to bring my troubles here. I wrote a couple of things at the tail end of the year that I never posted here. LOL, you should read some of them. Okay! We go again in a bit. The holiday is over, and I can’t exactly say I was on holiday because I worked throughout. It is what it is, and we’re happy to do so while we can. I was away, I traveled, and I was happy I touched Ibadan. It was the hardest part of my holiday, as I had to stare at my parents without saying a word. It’s a new year with renewed ...

Rambo, Omo Abule Sowo

Image
From now on and forever, I am your Real Estate plug. I am a phone call away. (Photo credit: Google) In the famous words of my late father, or was it Mumsy who used to say it? Nah, it’s my dad, and the saying goes, “If your income is coming from two sources as a Nigerian, you’re a poor man." He didn’t lie. I’ve been liquid enough to snatch people’s girlfriends, and I have been so broke that a broke Bashiru that year called me broke. I know how it feels to have money and the shame of not having it; it’s quite easy for me to choose the one I’d want to identify with. See, there’s no pride in poverty. I am a chop life gang ambassador, and outside has proven to be too expensive for my current energy; however, I am not trying to cut down on my extravagance. I only want to be able to afford it, and I have stumbled on a great plan. I have studied people who have so much money that they don’t ever look at the price tag when shopping. The goal for them has always been to make way more tha...

One hellish year and my one and half legs

Image
This has been like a home recently but, the goal is to get stronger when it gets tougher. I'm fighting to win. (Photo credit: Ramsey's iPhone) I remember promising Bukky (formerly the Peridot of BR, now the Peridot of UK) that I'd write a lot this month; it definitely won’t be every day like I did last year, but I’ll try, and here you go. To start with, it’s been a tough year by all standards. Not sure there’s ever a year in which I felt half as much physical pain as this year; 2019 had the inglorious award until 2023 pulled up, and here’s me hoping I’ll never have to see a more painful year than this one. The past three weeks have been the toughest. I spent more days with the physiotherapists than at work, but I am probably the strongest human I know. I am not giving up anytime soon, but the pains better ease up before I do something crazy. Yesterday was the International Day of People Living with Disabilities. It should be a public holiday, but while I wasn’t physicall...

Why I will vote Sanwo-Olu tomorrow

Image
My governor is rattled, he has been forced into lots of overnight vocations but in this dire time, I choose to stand with him. He has my vote. (Photo credit: Premium Times) Tomorrow, 18 th March would bring to an end the election season in Nigerian and sincerely, I cannot wait because it’s been crazy all round from the campaign of calumny, hypocrisy and pockets of violence here and there. Just so we’re clear, I will be voting Babajide Sanwo-Olu tomorrow and while I owe no one any reason(s), I will indulge you with a couple and I also encourage you to go ahead and cancel me because I’m not voting your candidate. Let’s even dwell on that nonsense a bit. Who are you to think your candidate is the best for me? Why do I have to align with your thoughts? Have you even thought deeply on your choice and can come up with a valid reason for your decision outside the fact that you’re on a bandwagon of no return? I dare you, whoever you are to cancel me because I am voting Sanwo-Olu. ...

My favorite uncle, a product of grace

Image
Happy birthday great guy. I hope you find joy in everything that matters to you. (Photo credit: Mobolaji Gold) There’s only one human that can make me do this, it’s a day I set aside to brag, to remind y’all of the consistency that I’ve achieved on this space, and to tell a story of how amazing my 2022 has been but this man will make that wait, we call him Hulk. Abiodun Hulk Opawole is my favorite uncle, he gave me a second chance in 2008 and the rest is history. I learned a lot from him during that time and while I wish things panned out differently with his wife, the tutorial I got from both of them shaped the man that I have become. Hulk was painted as a rebel to us while we were growing up but he came around during one of our holidays in 2005 and he gave all of us fifty Naira each, whatever it was that Baba Opa said after that day fell on deaf ears, yes I was happily bought and I hope that makes you happy. I had my episode in 2008, everyone was pouring words on me and I will ...

How do people thrive in chaos?

Image
What is the urge to share bad news to people? Why do people thrive on chaos? (Photo credit: Google) No matter how things play out, I insist that I’m not going to continue this journey after tomorrow; things are coming up in a way and topics are springing up but the devil is a stinking liar, tomorrow is the end of this journey and I can finally go wash my boxers. Was going to write about Lawal Abiodun Kazeem (LAK) today but I guess bad things happen to bad people, it means he won’t get to feature on this space. Tomorrow is taken already, it’s my favorite uncle’s birthday and I have to give him the honors. Today, I’ll reiterate something I mentioned on this space not too long ago; it was about Socrates’ information sieve and I hope you learn a thing or two in case you missed it the first time. When you hear some kinda information, what do you do? Run off and spread it or investigate? Many times, we’ve seen promising relationships ruined at the altar of unverified rumors and t...

That special feeling...

Image
Christmas is special, the feeling isn't the same but we keep it moving. (Photo credit: Google) A lot has changed about the Christmas feeling but one thing remains constant regardless and that is the beauty of reunion. It’s a little tricky because some have abused the trend but in all, seeing families, friends, and old folks again is something we don’t take for granted. For the first time in my entire life, I spent my Christmas away from my core family members (many of them have japa) but seeing my good people of Naija Pundits in our annual event (SEQUEL) made my season, you should see the part where we sang Johnny Drille’s song, it was sensational. Family is everything, the people you call your own, not necessarily by blood but by a bond that comes in many forms. I know many of you feel some type of way, probably because IJGBs hijacked your girls or whatnot, Jesus is still Lord whether you like it or not, don’t be angry. Growing up, the highlight used to be about dad receiv...

Yoruba movie industry and the mediocrity within

Image
I admire the hardworking people in this industry but there's a mansion for improvement from production, to acting and marketing. (Photo credit: TAMPAN) Shey we should not steal and we should not lie? The Yoruba film industry has to be the home of mediocrity and it’s getting worse by the day; it’s painful to write about this because I have lots of friends among them but omo, these people no dey try. Truth be told, some of them are trying but the gulf in class, quality, and effort between them and the English arm of the Nigerian film industry are unbelievable. I will try not to mention names and it’s not for fear but for the fact that it’s not my joy to rubbish someone’s hustle. I have lots of problems with their directors most times, while I know for sure that many of the so-called A-list actors don’t listen as they think they’re too big to be corrected or to be told what to do, I also feel if you can’t command respect as a film director then you should go learn shoemaking. ...

I'm not doing again

Image
For about five minutes I was in total darkness but we live to tell the story. However, a quick reminder that I'm not writing daily again after 31st December. Thank you. (Photo credit: Google) The most convenient topic to write about today is #Sequel because the party is today but it’s 9:37am in Lagos and the party starts around 11am, so I’ll pass on that as I quickly try to pen something before I lose lucidity at the table of men. A lot of people have told me they don’t expect me to stop this journey after the 31 st of December, I’m happy to tell you all that I hear you loud and clear but no, I am not doing again and there’s no amount of blackmail or “aspire to Maguire” that will make me continue. To be honest, when I started on the first of January, I didn’t think I’d be consistent and what this goes to show is that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. I know there were days I wrote pure nonsense but it’s the consistency for me, you can block your ears now becau...

The humans of Riquesa - My magical strategists

Image
Queen Latifah with a man that actually married a woman named Queen. My amazing teammates. (Photo credit: Ramsey's iPhone) It’s been an amazing year by all standards and part of why I can boldly say that is the fact that I got to work with people that know their job, teammates that challenged me to be better while I already wrote about some of them, today is for my professional next of kins, my Strategy teammates. Strategy is the fulcrum that balances any agency, while I always maintain it’s never a competition and each of us is as important as all of us, I also like to throw in my all-time favorite quote: " there’s no amount of creative execution that can rescue a bad strategy." Strategy folks are like the traditional number 10 in football; close your eyes and imagine possibilities, hand it over to the guys across the room, and voila! We have a sensational experience to deliver to our clients, so in the context of Riquesa, these humans have helped me to stay alive. ...

Let me tell you about Jesus Christ, the birthday Boy!

Image
There's no other one than the lowly Jesus, no not one. Happy birthday sweet Jesus. Stay Kinging. (Photo credit: RCG) Merry Christmas everyone! Happy birthday to Jesus Christ, my ever-dependable Lord and personal savior; the Lion of the tribe of Judah, a sure plug that doesn’t disconnect. Stay kinging my G. I know y’all are probably on third or fourth plate by the time you’ll be reading this but don’t be surprised that I’ve not gotten any but it’s fine. Today is all about Jesus Christ and I’ll keep it that way; No one comes through as much as He does so permit me to gloat about my savior. I don’t know if you can relate but He has never failed me. Through my irresponsible unfaithfulness to the promises I make to Him yearly, He has never forsaken me. There are things I pray about, and I see His hands but how about those things I didn’t even pray about that He still delivered? Late night drives and dangerous moves, walking through the valley of the shadow of death and He still ...

Damilare, my good friend from Obehi's 30+ group

Image
Happy birthday my brother. Have fun G. (Photo credit: Damilare) So I was supposed to conclude the story of my teammates today with my professional next of kins but I’ll have to defer it for two days because today is Damilare’s birthday and it’s only right I write few lines for him while tomorrow is Jesus’ birthday. Damilare is a friend I made in Obehi’s toxic 30+ group last year and he’s been a great friend ever since; Damilare legit looks out for me and sincerely has my interest at heart. He’s a natural peace maker too, I remember how many times he talked me into certain decisions and all were for good. Damilare is an accountant, works hard and deserves all the good things of life. Although he’s a Chelsea fan but he’s not a crude one like dem LAK and Folachi of Riquesa but as Arsenal is humbling them these days, I’m sure he’s considering moving to the happening side of London. Damilare and I were the only ones that didn’t run any show on that infamous 30+ group LOL, if you...

The humans of Riquesa - My creative engines

Image
Introducing Innocent (in Jean Jacket) and Deepsea (right behind him) on one of those days we had to work late. These are two of the amazing folks that make me shine. (Photo credit: Innodum) Today is the day the Lord has made and I’ll be glad enough to talk about my other ten gladiators; these are the amazing people, sometimes annoying but damn right productive that passed through my team this year at Riquesa Africa. I think I wrote about how unlucky I felt when a couple of them had to leave at different points under different circumstances but each and every one of them holds a place in my heart for their magic and how they individually made me shine, I present the gladiators of my Creative & Strategy agency within the agency. Trend, the one that held forth, and my John the Baptist; one wise that gives nothing away. Class of Glenfiddich this moment and on sachet action bitters the next. I rate this guy highly and we even live in the same neighborhood, dude walked not long after...

Why are we quick to encourage divorce?

Image
Happy first wedding anniversary my people. One down, forever to go. (Photo credit: Adedimeji Lateef) It’s my friends’ first wedding anniversary today and I’ll have to write about the marriage institution and how I feel about it right now. I remember talking about how much I dread divorce on this journey, I still do and I have enough reasons to be a lot more afraid. I’m happy for a few celebrity marriages I have in my circle. Pamilerin Adegoke got married about a month ago now and I’m excited about him and Motun his wife; David walked the aisle with Sandra and Ebuka Bullet crossed seven seas to bring home his wife too, I’m super happy for my men. However, why do we have homes breaking every day with folks eager to encourage couples to break up as e dey hot when they’re no longer enjoying it? I know I stand a risk of contradicting myself a bit but I’ll still go ahead and share my take. Take it from me, humans are fickle. I remember I wrote about domestic violence and the fact...
