Davido's dark hour, time to call 911?

Image
I pray the heavens to comfort the Adelekes. I hope people allow them to heal in peace without insensitivity. (Photo credit: Davido) The easiest thing to talk about today is obviously the unfortunate incident in the home of one of Africa’s leading acts Davido. I hope and pray the singer and his entire family find a way to deal with this sad loss, it’s a pain that will take time to heal, if it will ever heal. I saw conflicting news in the early hours of today, I couldn’t sleep because of a call I received late last night and I guess I will never surf the internet at such odd hours ever again. It’s not good for my health because till this moment, I have not stopped thinking about the death of that Lil boy. While I am not in any way related to Davido not having any personal relationship with him, I know what it means to lose a loved one and I still maintain that only the bereaved know where the shoe hurts. I pray the heavens to comfort them, it’s too hard to comprehend. The fir...

2022 Headies Awards: My honest review - Part 3

Image
Gutted he didn't win artiste of the year at the 2022 Headies awards but he can take pride in the songwriter of the year award he won. Congratulations Adekunle Kosoko. (Photo credit: My photo gallery) This is the final part of my Headies Awards reviews I promise. I’ll start this with the songwriter of the year, forget nonsense, Adekunle Gold deserves it and it’s not even sentiment; who else would you have handed it to? Brymo? Fireboy? Omah Lay? Please! TG Omori won the Music Video of the year award for Champion; he was nominated for two different projects and for his exploits so far, no one else comes close so no issues. Flavour’s Doings won the alternative song of the year, I have my reservations but let’s keep it moving. I change my mind, are we legit glorifying nonsense? You come tomorrow to wonder why people commit atrocities yet celebrate people that promote those vices through their creative works, na una know tho. A-Q’s Last Chapter won Lyricist of the year, hmmm… over ...

Ma fi billing pami

Image
I'm a bad person I agree, don't kill me with billing abeg. (Photo credit: Mobolaji Gold) I woke up this morning to a lengthy text message from a contact that hadn’t said a word to me this calendar year, asking for a loan of 100k and I was upset to the least of my veins for how insensitive and selfish people can be. Isn’t it pure witchcraft for you to bill someone you don’t check on? If you know anything about me, you’ll know I’m never afraid to share but we should know when to draw the line for people who won’t lift a finger for us but want us to go to extents for them when they need us and guess what? They always need us. Let me put it into simpler context: This person was getting the link to my articles daily and never opened for once, she even told a mutual contact that my links were becoming annoying to her and after hearing that, I stopped sharing to her… What is her moral justification for asking me for money when she doesn’t feel a need to support me? You don’t p...

Jackson's victory, Davido's passion and other stories

Image
Congratulations to Senator Jackson Adeleke and his hyper active nephew Davido but what would his regime look like? (Photo credit: IG) I woke up to the news that Jackson won the gubernatorial election in Osun state and I can’t contain my joy, certainly not because I’m a fan of PDP or even the dancing senator, but because we are gradually getting to debunk the nonsense beliefs that our votes don’t count… We’re getting there. I have a few take aways from the Osun elections and I’ll happily share in no particular order. Just so we’re clear, politics is local and you need to understand the dynamism of each playground, a clear understanding of the peculiarities of each environment is a precursor to unprecedented victory. I discovered that the use of social media became a battle between the popular nuisance, Portable and fans favorite Davido, lol there’s only one winner in that; it takes only a fool to seek numbers through the use of a temporary comrade. Whoever sanctioned the Porta...

Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy... Who is the biggest?

Image
The three are special gifts to Nigeria as a country and I'm glad I'm alive to witness their reigns. Who is the biggest for you? (Photo credit: TMZ) I linked up with the boys few weekends ago on Dipo Ogun’s MMS podcast and it was fun as usual. One of the topics we discussed is what I’m writing about today and trust me, it’s one that divides opinions across channels and borders. I have promised to continue to keep this journey short so I’ll try to make this as succinct as possible; who is the biggest among Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy? I know the next question would be the metrics to consider but if I decide to go that route, this would turn into a novel. Without any doubts, Wizkid is the most loved of the three and you might want to ask why, especially if you’re not one of his fans. Some things are not in the books and we just can’t help it, Wizkid has gotten to a point where he could cough all through an album and his stans would still expect him to win a Grammy with it. ...

The Eagle fell badly at the Grammys

Image
The Eagle fell badly at the Grammys last night but it's not the end of the world, tomorrow is another day for Wizkid to try again. (Photo credit: Adufe the bloody Leftist) If I had a chance to, I’d have placed a bet on Wizkid winning Grammys last night. I wouldn’t expect him to win the two categories he was nominated for, but it didn’t go as planned, and in my book, that takes nothing away from his greatness, and tomorrow is another day. I don’t know how to react to the drama that followed Wizkid’s unsuccessful attempt to win the Grammy award last night, I saw division, and as shameful as it comes, someone has to remind Nigerian Twitter users that the battle is never us against us but us against the world. I also saw ignorant folks talking down the legendary Angelique Kidjo, asking what rights she has to win an award that belongs to their favs; they have no idea who she is or the number of dues she has paid in the industry; I’ll leave that as that. The eagle fell badly, ble...

Davido to represent Nigeria at the FIFA World Cup

Image
Davido features on the official FIFA World Cup sound track, that's a big win for Nigerian music industry and a consolation as we missed out on tournament ticket. (Photo credit: Pulse Nigeria) Hello and welcome to day 92, if this is your first time of reading from me, I’ve been on a journey and you might want to check out older posts, I’m sure there would be one or two you’d find interesting. I’m actually busier than third mainland bridge right now but I have to pen something, I honestly don’t have a topic planned today, trust me I hardly do and it’s usually a go-with-the-flow thing, that takes pressure off me in a way but it’s not sustainable, or is it? The World Cup draw was held yesterday, Nigeria will not be participating as we managed to bottle the qualifiers against Ghana right on our own soil, I can’t even pretend, I’m still feeling pains from that horrible showing, it would hurt more when the tournament starts and our national anthem isn’t on the playlist. So, Davido...
