Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy... Who is the biggest?

The three are special gifts to Nigeria as a country and I'm glad I'm alive to witness their reigns. Who is the biggest for you? (Photo credit: TMZ)

I linked up with the boys few weekends ago on Dipo Ogun’s MMS podcast and it was fun as usual. One of the topics we discussed is what I’m writing about today and trust me, it’s one that divides opinions across channels and borders.

I have promised to continue to keep this journey short so I’ll try to make this as succinct as possible; who is the biggest among Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy? I know the next question would be the metrics to consider but if I decide to go that route, this would turn into a novel.

Without any doubts, Wizkid is the most loved of the three and you might want to ask why, especially if you’re not one of his fans. Some things are not in the books and we just can’t help it, Wizkid has gotten to a point where he could cough all through an album and his stans would still expect him to win a Grammy with it.

In my books, I think I’d rank Davido third and it’s not exactly an easy decision. I love Davido and I see his hard work; Davido is more like Cristiano Ronaldo and the only reason I won’t rate him as number one of the trio would be the fact that he doesn’t fancy international recognition as much as the other two.

Davido is a king, he doesn’t have the voice and he’s not the best writer around but hey, dude knows how to turn any song to a hit and he’s milking every bit of his reigns. His storytelling is sensational and he has a way of turning everything around him to music projects… I like.

Davido has tried his best to raise new stars, this will forever be his social currency. MayorKun and Peruzzi come to mind; only Olamide thumps Davido in that regard and I say for a fact, his place in the history of Nigerian music is forever secured.

I’ll rate Burna Boy second and that’s simply because of the Grammy award. Burna knows how to align with global forces and that will continue to help him in the conversation of greats. I don’t like his person and I’m worried about his attitude, I hope he doesn’t implode soon.

Burna’s bodyguards killed two people recently and a video I saw showed Burna laughing while that happened; you can’t be against the government on some ills in the society and still encourage such, his fans won’t tell him the truth but it’s showbiz. Great talent with no ceiling though.

I sincerely think Wizkid is the biggest of the three and that’s on God. I watched Tems at the BET few days ago and saw Weezy all over her, I know there are reservations around how he hasn’t really helped emerging talents but go outside the country, talk about Wizkid and see the level of respect he commands.

I knew Wizkid’s beginning actually, I remember his cameo days at Lead City University that year, the “holla at your boy” days and the era of significance that followed. There’s effortless greatness in that boy but I agree he was a better singer under Banky W’s EME.

Wizkid’s lyrics are usually empty, repeating same thing for as long as he can but again, he is more of grace than talent and that’s on period! So I'm asking, who is the biggest of the trio for you? Balance me. And should you wanna listen to the podcast and here what the guys had to say, here's the link: https://spoti.fi/3OwdGzD
