The humans of Riquesa - My creative engines

Image
Introducing Innocent (in Jean Jacket) and Deepsea (right behind him) on one of those days we had to work late. These are two of the amazing folks that make me shine. (Photo credit: Innodum) Today is the day the Lord has made and I’ll be glad enough to talk about my other ten gladiators; these are the amazing people, sometimes annoying but damn right productive that passed through my team this year at Riquesa Africa. I think I wrote about how unlucky I felt when a couple of them had to leave at different points under different circumstances but each and every one of them holds a place in my heart for their magic and how they individually made me shine, I present the gladiators of my Creative & Strategy agency within the agency. Trend, the one that held forth, and my John the Baptist; one wise that gives nothing away. Class of Glenfiddich this moment and on sachet action bitters the next. I rate this guy highly and we even live in the same neighborhood, dude walked not long after...

Ovation Red Carol: Has Tuface lost his magic?

Image
I'm a big TuFace fan but is it time to admit that baba is gradually exiting the big stage? (Photo credit: TuFace) Last night was surreal I must say. In the spirit of the famous #DettyDecember season, I was out all night and I enjoyed every bit of it. At the rate I’m going this month, I’ll probably need a lot of hypo in January. I was at the Ovation Red Carol and I still have goosebumps from the experience. It was a quadruple header for Dele Momodu but at some points, it was looking like a PDP rally but I didn’t care, I was there to enjoy myself and so I did to the fullest beyond words. The accomplished publisher was celebrating his 30 th wedding anniversary, Pastor Ituah Ighodalo of the Trinity house took them through the vows renewals and again, I saw the joy of the marriage institution but I won’t go further with that before I text the wrong person. It was also the 55 th birthday of Dele Momodu’s wife as well as the 25 th birthday of their fashion entrepreneur son, Eniaf...

Back at the theatre of dreams...

Image
I'm back in my corner at the theatre of dreams, feeling good and ready to go. (Photo credit: Ramsey's iPhone) So, I’m back at work today after a whole week off due to my eye surgery. It feels good to walk into the theatre of dreams again after a whole week out. Feels good to be back at the Theatre of dreams; it’s not a full house really, Sandy Mandie is not in town and you can tell. The energy goddess herself, not like she’s not representing online, I am feeling her heat from the UK as I type, and trust me, it’s all for the win. Tolu (Pastor Asake) is standing in for the King of boys and I don’t envy him. I doubt that guy has slept for up to four hours in three days. Back-to-back executions and now he must understand the hard work Sandy does. I feel like laughing at him but I won’t because I’m a good guy. My men, Innocent the resident DJ of the kingdom is buzzing as always; a happy child with zero worries as long as yall allow him to run his P at the other end with Fisa...

Don't encourage fake gists

Image
Sieve the stories and know when to kill fake gists. May the Lord be with you. (Photo credit: Google) I wrote about fake information yesterday and after reading over it again I figured I didn’t do enough justice to it. I will share two different stories that would give you an idea of the danger of peddling rumors. Just recently, an incident happened around Stadium in the Surulere axis of Lagos State. I’m an early bird so, I typically get to work before most people but on this particular day, nearly everyone else apart from the early risers (Myself, Innocent, and Olumide) didn’t come in until over an hour after normal resumption time. I was on Twitter and saw a post of a horrible accident on the Ojuelegba bridge and I panicked a bit; that’s the bridge most of my colleagues use to work and I immediately got on my phone to find out where folks were but it didn’t take long for me to find out what actually happened. Sandra already shared videos of how some physically challenged f...

Another big week ahead...

Image
It's a big week for me, I'll enjoy every moment of it and come out unscathed. Let's do it! (Photo credit: Sonia's status) The girls have moved on to greater things and life must continue for the rest of us. Back on the grind and straight up to work; no retreat, no surrender! It’s not a long post, it’s basically me telling you what my new week will look like. Last week was a crazy one by all standards but it ended with pats and knuckle-choppings; we’re not there yet tho, we go again this week and the pressure level is likely to be same but no repeat of what happened on Wednesday I promise. It's a big week actually; Big Brother Naija should finally give us peace this week and I can hear Deepsea and Innocent screaming amen! I can't wait to stop seeing Moji's request in that regard. I need to rush this post now, I really want to sleep.  I haven’t done anything of note on script writing front for a while now, no excuses really; I will banish that spirit of ...

The calm that follows the storm...

Image
One of us is not important as all of us... (Photo credit: Always had it) So it’s my baby’s engagement event today and I’m nervous; show is about to start, don’t ask me for pictures or my look in agbada cos I won’t answer you. For those that can’t see me, don’t ask me for my whereabouts, I will not answer you. Zukwanike. I’m relieved that the pressure of the past few days has evaporated into some sense of fulfilment; we always have to find ways to understand the value of every component of a team and, when we disagree, we stay informed that we’re not fighting against one another, we’re only trying to win together. Again, I feel blessed for the guys around me; from the deceptive innocence of the one to my left, and the unpredictable sweetness and madness of the one right after her, then to the mad men that join hands with the girls to make me shine… God is good and kind to me. The ones on my right have no idea how much I love them, they will someday; it’s Olamide’s birthday t...

I need this weekend...

Image
The weekend is here but I'll be working, courtesy of my colleagues... (Photo credit: Google) I was supposed to write about my Ballon D’or today, I had plans to share the feeling, excitement and everything in between since winning three awards with Brand Regimen at the Experiential Marketing Agency Awards of 2021 but the time isn’t available to expressly deliver premium content. Instead I’ll tell you how the week has been and wait till some other day to deliver my article on the awards and trust me, it beats me too that I have not written about it. I am proud of the awards and I always refer to them on days I feel low for confidence. The week started on a weird note, I will never understand the need for two-days public holidays on Monday and Tuesday. I already dressed up for work on Tuesday before I realized there’s no work, of course I didn’t undress; I sat behind my laptop all day to deliver Ayodeji’s brief. Resumption came with drama but I’m on top of it; mismanagement of...

Village people, leave my team alone!

Image
I don't know who you are but God is bigger than you. Whoever is after my team today should please calm down and get lost. (Photo credit: Bovi) I know I can be annoying and may have stepped on a few toes while throwing bants or trying to win verbal arguments but whoever is after my life through my creative team should please forgive me and allow us thrive cos I don’t understand what is happening today. I have lots on my plate and majority of them rest on the creative team; of course we’re aligned and we know what we have to do but someone, or a group of people, or a host of wicked legions are after my team and we just might need deliverance. Deepsea was the first to call me to report a crisis. All the work he’s been on about from Friday went down the sloppy drain following a devilish system crash; I don’t know if I can sue Apple for his mac book mishap or I should just pray harder. Innocent has also reported a system hiccup; his own device has frozen and what can the righteo...
