The official Assistant Boyfriend of Lagos

Image
Happy birthday my G... Sip Easy. (Photo credit: Black) The first time I saw this guy, I didn’t like him, and the reason was because I saw him clinging to three different ladies within my first three hours of resumption at Madison & Park. Tunde Black Ogunrinde is the classic example of an Assistant Boyfriend; you can see him around all the ladies in Lagos, but I can assure you beyond every doubt that he ain’t getting nothing from any of them. They can call him “dear” and “sweetheart” till daybreak but that’s where it ends. I think he had to travel for work and was out of the office for about two weeks so, it took a while for me to warm up to him or even get to know much about him outside the fact that folks were always talking about him. While I was in the strategy team, he was in the operations team alongside TSA, Paul and Sekinat. Not long afterward, Black and I became a little close but not beyond work conversations and one or two bottles. Six months down the line and...

Be like Benzema, be happy for people

Image
Look closely, that's Karim Benzema clapping for Ronaldo and the rest of his teammates that made the Ultimate XI in 2017. (Photo credit: Dipo Ogun) The convenient thing to write about today is Karim Benzema and his Ballon d’Or, I am happy for the Frenchman and his achievement, he deserves it beyond words and no one can take anything away from him. What stands out for Benzema is his humility through the years as he kept celebrating winners. He saw Cristiano Ronaldo win the award four times and Luka Modric once and, as seen in the picture in the thumbnail, he was always clapping as a happy guy for his teammates. In life, you have to learn how to be happy for people. If it's not working for you at the moment, you can be happy for those that are shining, it won't take anything from you but bad belle won't let you see the road. I hope you learn from Benzema... Oluwa a wa pelu e o. I am not even in the right place to shalaye today; yesterday has to be the most exhausting...

The day my father passed away...

Image
I hope you're fine at the other end... Sleep on dad. (Photo credit: Ramsey's iPhone) 10 th October 2019, the day I questioned God and everything I knew as a man and as a Christian; the day I wondered if prayers ever work or if nursing faith and hoping on even ever makes sense… It was the day I lost my wildcard, my loving father. It was a Thursday, two days to my dream event as at then. I’d always wanted to work on NBC/Coca Cola, if you’re in my career space you’d probably have a dream account, mine was Coke and every other product within the portfolio and thanks to M&P, I was about to live the dream. We had battled everything towards getting ready for Jack Daniel’s “Jack and the beat”; it was a journey that took sleep away from me for a long time and lots of back and forte with my team. I was in the office as early as 6:30am to go through the deck with Kolade one more time and phone beepers went off. It rang a couple of times and I wasn’t going to pick, Kolade nudg...

One weird Thursday...

Image
It's a weird Thursday but not in a bad way... (Photo credit: Google) It’s a weird Thursday. Started off on the ground of anxiety for another big pitch that I had to attend and then some email that I needed someone to receive. I just got back from the pitch and as always, we killed it. I won’t be able to go into details but trust me, I’ll be here to share as soon as I can; I met Paul, an old colleague at Madison & Park at the pitch and that brought some nostalgia – I will never forget the incident that saw him exit the agency. The rain is falling non-stop, I’m still basking in the euphoria of my nephew that came through yesterday and the good feeling that came from the pitch. It’s 5:30pm, I can’t even go home yet; I need this lady to get the email so we can party and I also need to get home in one piece – remember I’m off alcohol for now. Traffic will be gangster today but we move. I’m not looking forward to the weekend because there’s none, I’m running out of time on lo...

One vain Sekinat... The life of the party

Image
Happy birthday Sekinat Gaji, one of my favs from Rosewood Close. (Photo credit: Sekinat) Sekinat Gaji is a gee by all standards. One of those girls that you connect with on all relevant levels, someone that fits all occasions, real and down to earth… Sekinat Gaji is a special human. I’d just joined the M&P crew and was actually fixated on Halima because she was the warmest to me at the time but after the first three days on Rosewood close, I discovered the brother in Sekinat… Trust me, you need someone like her in your corner. Today is Sekinat’s birthday and it’s the right time for me to write about her. Seki is that girl that is never afraid to live; she’s full of life and almost all the time, she’s with the mind of her own and I’ll give you a few instances to give you an idea of who she is. Seki is that girl that will come into the office, looking like Amber Rose and just after lunchtime, the wig is probably in her bag and her “shuku” is all you see; trust me she slay...

#HorribleBosses: Ebun needs help

Image
Minister of "F" word affairs, Ebun Okubanjo tearing into someone as usual. (Photo credit: Bento) Going through the #HorribleBosses thread, I can only be grateful to God because I can’t relate and I’ve worked with tons of bosses and line managers, I’ve had the best of them and while many recount their pains, I should count my blessings too. I must state categorically that I’m a very annoying person, which I’m not sorry for, I’ve had amazing teammates all around, from Insight, to Eslia, To Niche IMC, to X3m Ideas, to Madison & Park, to BR and even my own Intelligence Republic. I had an offer to join Bento before I went to Mad & Park, thank God I dodged that bullet because how in the world was I supposed to work with such a toxic ass human? How do you scream down everyone at every opportunity? To what end? I’ve always maintained that if you have to shout to win an argument, it means you don’t have a point. I am not passing judgment on social media trial basis, th...
