The Eagle fell badly at the Grammys

The Eagle fell badly at the Grammys last night but it's not the end of the world, tomorrow is another day for Wizkid to try again. (Photo credit: Adufe the bloody Leftist)

If I had a chance to, I’d have placed a bet on Wizkid winning Grammys last night. I wouldn’t expect him to win the two categories he was nominated for, but it didn’t go as planned, and in my book, that takes nothing away from his greatness, and tomorrow is another day.

I don’t know how to react to the drama that followed Wizkid’s unsuccessful attempt to win the Grammy award last night, I saw division, and as shameful as it comes, someone has to remind Nigerian Twitter users that the battle is never us against us but us against the world.

I also saw ignorant folks talking down the legendary Angelique Kidjo, asking what rights she has to win an award that belongs to their favs; they have no idea who she is or the number of dues she has paid in the industry; I’ll leave that as that.

The eagle fell badly, bled through the mouth and nose but like a seed, buried and forgotten, if watered by those that believe in the life it carries and the dreams that must be seen, it will rise and live, to blossom through the rays of sunlight and to give birth to seeds, Wizkid will have the last laugh.

When it was Burna Boy against Angelique Kidjo, many vile tweets flew all over the TL from many Nigerians against their own; some said they didn’t want him to win because he’d be too proud; I want to know who made them the custodians of morality.

Burna Boy accepted he wasn’t there yet, he went under the tutelage of Angelique Kidjo, and the rest is history. The place of mentorship in things like this cannot be underestimated; I don’t think these guys need awards to validate their greatness with the body of work they put out, but please hand them their roses when they deserve it.

Angelique Kidjo released a song that spoke about the challenges of Africa, she talked about climate change and its impact on the continent, and you think she doesn’t know what she’s doing? Why do you believe Femi Kuti gets nominated almost every year? You have to be intentional about this thing.

The crux of this conversation today is on the fans of Davido who didn’t only wish Wizkid didn’t win the award last night but also messed up the TL with trolls. While a lot of people would find the memes entertaining, their motives will never sit well with me.

I’m not in the best of places right now and I’m not sure it’s the right time to share. Lines will fall into pleasant places when they’re ready, there will always be days like this when we have to be strong and hope the universe aligns. See y’all tomorrow.
