Stories that touch from fuel scarcity angle

Image
Look at these boys, they will buy from the filling station and resell to cars just outside the filling station, they're the real power brokers in this hustle. (Photo credit: Google) Omo! This fuel scarcity has come with lots of stories that touch and I think I should share a few of them. It’s been on for far too long especially when you consider the fact that we were told it wasn’t like there was no fuel but some were contaminated, so how long would it take them to clean it up? Let’s not forget the fact that we know how to make life difficult for ourselves in Nigeria, greedy people are already exploiting others and I doubt any fuel attendant out there wants the fuel scarcity to end, it is what it is if you ask them but they won’t win forever. One fuel attendant told me last week that if the scarcity continues for another one week, he’d be able to pay his rent, buy a new phone and be liquid for at least three months, you think he was exaggerating? You’d want to think twice whe

The NEPA Boys are the kings of local content

Image
Kamo and Ozain are the real deal when it comes to local content, their comedy is special, check them out and thank me later. (Photo credit: @Thenepabois) Content creators and skit makers are blowing up the Nigerian entertainment space and we’re loving it. I won’t say someone isn’t funny or another one isn’t good enough, I’ll simply say they’re not for me but today, I want to celebrate The NEPA Bois. There are chances that a non-Yoruba person might not be able to relate well with their content, but I’m not sure there’s anytime I come across their skits without laughing wildly, they’re that good and this has absolutely nothing to do with hype, I currently don’t work with them but the possibility is there. Kamo and Ozain started off as the popular NEPA officials, chronicling situations from power officials on duty and the challenges they face from time to time, if you’ve ever been embarrassed by these people in real life, you’ll relate well with these boys. I stumbled on them earl

Air Peace airline and the Emir's Cousin

Image
Air Peace has released an official statement to deny the claims by Isa Bayero that the airline disrespected the Emir by refusing to delay a flight for him. (Photo credit: Punch) Sense of entitlement is a big thing in our society and we have to find a whole month to dedicate to a fight against it, it’s that serious and my piece today borders around it, you too see! I remember the last time I traveled to Abuja, it was a 7am flight on Air Peace but we didn’t leave Lagos until some few minutes before 9am, almost two hours delay and when we were going to eventually take off, it was discovered that the flight was delayed for a certain Lagos senator… This information is to confirm to you that airlines in this part of the world legit delay flights for certain “eminent personalities”, they waste people’s time because of these individuals and we don’t talk about it enough, the spat in the media between the Emir of Kano’s team and Air Peace finally brings the chicken home to roost. You ma

I don't want war but I stand with Russia

Image
Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy is crying over the silence of world powers in the wake of the Russian invasion, what was he expecting? May God end this war ASAP. Dear God, it's not like I'm telling you what to do, but please end this crisis in Ukraine ASAP, na beg I dey beg, thank you boss. To every conflict, there’s always something to listen to from both warring parties. The brewing war in Ukraine didn’t start today and while the journalism available to most Nigerians on CNN is somewhat biased, running with the “ Putin is evil ” mantra might be unfair. Everyone is talking about the situation in Ukraine, of course except your “slay mammas” and “woke papas” who litter status updates with memes and hide under cruise to join bandwagons, they clearly don’t understand what’s going on so they’re sitting this one out, yes I’m dragging you. The war is here already because Russia already encroached and as at the time of penning this piece, the Russian troops are approach

My friend Slimee is a great guy

Image
He posted this picture recently on his return from Dubai with HIS WIFE, read that again, he's not single. (Photo credit: Naija Pundits) Let me remind you again that if you’re my friend, this moving train will hit you someday. You don’t have to agree with my write-up on you, I challenge you to pick your pen and write about me too if you’re slighted or you feel a need to equalize, today it’s the turn of Mr. ASK! Abdulsadiq Kosoko is one of the friends I made from Naija Pundits, one of the lively baggers in there with lots of energy to go around, a man of many colors, great on most days and a full blown nuisance on other days, I like him a lot and I’ll tell you why. Slimee, as he’s fondly called is into real estate and he’s not hesitant to help my forays into that industry, looks like all of them in that field are rich, I want to be rich too so I have started selling properties, edakun I’m begging you, come and buy what I’m selling. Shey I said we call him Slimee, he’s no long

Things that turn me off at work

Image
There are a few things that turn me off at work, and if I don't talk about them, who will? (Photo credit: Google) A couple of days ago I talked about my muse at work, my steamy hot coffee, the coke bottle body ladies that remind me of the essence of life and the content of my hipflask, I think it’s okay to talk about one or two things that turn me off at work and hope someone can relate. There are two sides to a coin, right? And if there are things that make the work place fun for me, there should also be certain things that do the opposite. It’s never going to be the same for everyone as we’re not wired the same way, so to each his or her own. In case you missed it, I talked about the fact that I like to bring energy to the work place, positive vibes only and regardless of what the situation is, let’s keep the music playing and optimism high, that’s the only way we can win. In that regard, it turns me off when someone on the team is killing the vibe, especially with mood s

If you won't say it... Just hush!

Image
This goes out to everyone that pauses halfway while trying to pass information, just shut up! And no, I'm not angry. (Photo credit: Dunno where I got it from TBH) If you call me to tell me you have a gist for me, and in-between the conversation, you change your mind and go “ never mind ” or “ I don’t feel like telling you again ”, you will have to wake Bin Laden from his grave for me to ask you again. I love gists, not exactly an “ amebo” but I could use some juicy stories sometimes, but if you want to act God over an information that would not make me richer or taller, tell me why I should worship you when I can just log on to Twitter for better stories that touch? Ladies especially have this thing in them, start a conversation and keep you hanging halfway, especially when they’re gossiping about their friends or yours, or telling you about a movie they saw, it’s not that deep aunty you can keep the gist. An uncle used to tell his wife “It’s better for you not to know tha

Jane Mena is not my only muse at work

Image
My amazing Davidoff coffee, my dependable water cup, my right winger white bottle that conceals its content and of course, my sidekick, hipflask of life, show me a better formation... I wait. (Photo credit: Ramsey's iPhone) The work place is supposed to be a fun theatre, somewhere you’re excited to go to when you wake up in the morning, the people, the environment and the air must speak your language, if this isn’t the case where you work, please start sending out your CV. My job is more of mental than physical. Yes, I do a lot of things and all of them require mental stability. I run the risk of idea block as well, that’s why I can’t survive in a toxic work environment or one that is as boring as whatever AY does as comedy, no offense intended. I’m that guy that brings energy to the work place, they feel it once I walk through the door and I’ve been quite lucky to find myself in working environments that encourage good vibes, from the music to the banters and everything it t

Oga e don do, Japata and other enemies of our youths

Image
The continuous and aggressive consumption of these drugs remain a threat to the future of Nigerian youths, who did this to us? (Photo credit: Google) Not too long ago, we heard of yet another death of one of the men around star singer and DMW boss Davido, and rational thinkers started asking deep questions. Insensitive as it might sound, when something happens in bizarre manners like that, eyebrows would be raised… I live/work around some of these guys and I can tell you for free that the amount of hard drugs these guys take will freeze hell over in shock, the goal for them is to stay permanently high, it’s not my place to judge or teach anyone how to live, but can I stand the fingers being pointed at Davido? Someone died in my neighborhood recently, he was in the company of friends and he was said to have drowned in a pool, those that knew him personally confirmed his state before he dived into the pool, he was half past gone… If you get what I mean. We all have our addictions

Dipo Ogun... My favorite "Frenemy"

Image
Here's Honorable Dipo Ogun, M.A VI. Great guy by all standards and the guy that motivated this journey I'm on. (Photo credit: Instagram)   I guess I need to remind you that it could be your turn tomorrow, you honestly don’t have to be my closest friend for me to write about you, and like I promised, it’s entirely exactly the way I see and feel about you or the situations around you, today is the turn of one of my favorite “Frenemies”. Michael Adedipupo Ogun (M.A the 6th) was actually my motivation for this journey, if you have been following from the start, I must have mentioned his name in at least ten of the last 49 episodes. He wrote everyday for 365 days last year, I thought I could too and if I say so myself, I don’t think I’m doing badly so far. I met Dipo Ogun through the famous, maybe infamous Naija Pundits group in 2015 I guess and like most people I’d later like, I didn’t like him at first. His responses to my posts on the group were always awkward to me, it too

EndSARS, Lekki Toll-Gate and the lessons within

Image
EndSARS was not a failure, we passed our messages but the lessons within should guide us for future situations. (Photo credit: Twitter) I lost a church member to police brutality, dude was at a bar, watching football over a drink and a trigger-happy police officer’s stray bullet hacked him down. #EndSARS was a movement that was long overdue, we had to do something about the indiscretions of some members of the Nigerian Police Force. I had a very long hard thought over this topic, it’s a sensitive one and I know a lot of people get emotional about it, it is what it is really, we have to take stocks at some points and the fact that we can’t all agree on same things is one of the beauties of existence. 20 th October of 2020 would go down as one of the darkest days of Nigeria as a nation, but events leading to that gory night could have been avoided if the people saddled with security and the enforcement of law and order did their jobs without issues. First I’d love to state this,

It's my mother's birthday... My very own drama queen

Image
This picture was from my baby sisters' introduction a little over a week ago. Happy birthday mummy. Have a beautiful new year. (Photo credit: Ramsey's iPhone) It is well documented that I always preferred my father to my mother, I have answered that a lot of times and even in death, I remain a daddy’s boy but the place of my mother in my life can never be underestimated. Today is my mother’s birthday, even when I wasn’t on a writing journey, I always found ways to script something for her but today, I choose to recount a few things from the past and maybe a little projection into the future, all for mummy. I’ll start with this, I’m having a great day. Had a presentation earlier today that went better than I ever imagined, we had great ideas to be honest but clients would always find a way to punch holes but there was nothing to criticize, we killed it and congratulations are in order. Yo Mummy! Lol I didn’t like my mother growing up and that was because she was always r

My church's Choirmaster

Image
Behold, Isaac Adekunbi, a big brother and friend. One of those I can truly call a leader of men. (Photo credit: Facebook) It was my first day at the church, my neighbor had told me a whole lot about the prayers and not like I needed the information, as my background was deeply rooted in CAC, proximity already played the needed influence so it was more like fuel and lighter. 4 th of January 2015, I was starting a new job the next day I think and most people in my shoes would consider a prayerful start, it was a big leap but a story for another day. It was a revival, a customary thing at the start of the year in the church, I enjoyed it and I knew from that point I’d be attending the church from then on. I wriggled through the crowd, got downstairs but had to stand aside to allow the traffic subside, I was spotting an Arsenal jersey, a guy in Chelsea jersey tapped me on the chest, he tried bragging a bit which is what they’re known for, he helped me to a seat behind two ladies whi
