Headies 2022... My honest review

I strongly believe BNXN (Buju) deserves the Next Rated award but I disagree with a few other categories. (Photo credit: HipTV) |
When Buju lost the Rookie of the year award to Barry Jhay that year, we all knew it was only a matter of time before he bursts into the mainstream for the world to see; always knew he would be a super star and winning the 2022 Headies Award Next Rated is a testament to that.
We’ll talk about the dumb decision to take the awards to New York
later but hey, this is about winners and those that didn’t. This post is
entirely my opinion but as always, I’d love to read from you, especially if you
have a different opinion to mine on winners in some categories.
BNXN is Buju now prefers to be called deserves the award but I
must also admit that you can make a case for almost everyone on that list. I’m
a big Ruger fan, Ayra Starr did great in the last one year and birthed a dance
move with Good Samaritan. Zinoleesky is owning the street but I must say I don’t
really understand the Lojay guy.
Album of the year? I think Wizkid’s Made in Lagos deserves it.
Machala has been handed some compensatory awards in the past that he didn’t
really deserve but he can have this one; I’d have loved Olamide’s Carpe Diem to
win it though but hey, it’s a fair decision.
I also think Feeling (BNXN X Ladipoe) deserved the rap single of
the year; I struggle with the music video but the song did numbers on charts
but how in God’s name did Oxlade’s Ojuju win best male vocal performance over
Ric Hassani’s When I’m Gone or Johnny Drille’s Loving is harder?
I can understand Goya Menor’s Amino winning but Bella Shmurda’s
Cash App and Moh Bhad’s KPK did numbers too. It can be well argued that Amino
was only a song for certain places and moods, the other two I mentioned ruled
almost all vibes however, I can understand Amino lasted longer.
Headies awarding international artiste was just to get global
recognition but I maintain it should have happened in Nigeria; bring your Chris
Brown, Ed Sheeran, Beyonce, Justin Bieber, Drake and Nas that you nominated to
Nigeria and let grab the award here, whoever advised the New York nonsense
needs cane.
Breezy won the award and I know it’s a Davido thing and yes, he
can have it. I’ll stop at West African Artiste of the year and it kinda pains
me that Angelique Kidjo didn’t win this, I’d have been able to brag to my
teammates over a discussion we had last week but Gyakie can enjoy it.
I’ll be back tomorrow with the balance of my review of the 2022
Headies Awards. I’ll let someone else talk about how people showed up, check
Cookie’s YouTube page Fola My Flora I’m sure she would review that but for me,
it’s about the awards proper. See y’all tomorrow.
I think the Dorime song also got international acts jumping on the you want to bam bam part. Cash App and KPK were just mostly Nigerian focused. Maybe that gave Ameno the edge
