Why I failed Geography at every level

The gang spent some time gossiping their secondary school lecturers today and it brought back memories from those days of white and purple; the days of brown canes and juvenile antics… Thank God for growth and the grace to have a good story to tell.
I heard folks talking about some
certain teachers and how their actions and inactions influenced their love and
hatred for certain subjects and I can relate. It baffles people when I tell
them I failed Geography at every level, I did well to avoid it in WAEC but
there’s a rich history behind that.
It all started in SS1, I must say
I should never have gone to science class; I’m from the kinda family that glorify
intangibles, you’re seen as dumb if you’re not in science class, I fell for
that nonsense and I paid for it with wasted years because I don’t see the value
of dy/dx in brand strategy and advertising.
Back to Geography, we didn’t have
a teacher for the entirety of first term, only for one old man to show up one
sunny afternoon about a week to exams and asked us to tear a sheet of paper and
he was going to dictate questions for what would be our mid-term test.
Omo! Everyone was bewildered and
instead of him to seek ways to settle us into his boring session, he stood
there with his ugly tribal marks threatening us with canes. The only thing the
man would be remembered for was the fact he kept bragging about his left hand
that can beat to death.
I lost interest in Geography as a
subject, I failed it through secondary school and ensured I avoided it clinically
during WAEC and university days. It’s amazing how people come to me to tell me
Geography is the easiest course ever, nonsense people but somehow, they recline
into shells when I tell them Further Mathematics is the easiest.
Chemistry was lit, I never had to
read for Agric Science or Biology to ace em, Economics was quite interesting
and Physics was just Physics, with clear understanding of few formulas, Credit
is going to show up but here’s an unpopular opinion, English Language was
harder than Mathematics but y’all won’t agree.
It’s amazing how no one has moved
the motion to send wicked teachers to jail for child abuse. I will never
understand how someone will leave his or her house, get to work (school) and
then line children up for premium beating all in the name of trying to make
corrections. Are you the devil’s cousin?
Anyways, I’d love to read from
you guys, what subject gave you issues in secondary school? Which subject was
your fav and how did you cope with the difficult ones? I’d love to read from
you.
