This is my prayer for you…

May you not be surrounded by negative opinions that you can’t do shit about; people that can decide what you study in school, where you live, friends you choose, your partner to marry; if these ugly deciders are the ones feeding you or got something on you, what can you do?

May you not choose someone that would rather be with someone else, someone that is using you as a placeholder or someone that compares you with someone else… I can pray for you but don’t be stupid dear, read the room and run off!

May you not need help from people that won’t come through and still ensure those that can help don’t notice or listen to you; who are you seeking support from? Someone that stalls and then drags you away from those that can? Look around you.

May you not be the one-eyed man in the midst of blind folks. If the people you’re currently surrounded by can’t be the contact your siblings would brag about tomorrow, you’re probably in the wrong circle and unfortunately, you might be a wrong element in there too.

May you not waste time with someone that is window-shopping; someone that knows she’s only interested in tall dark men but you’re an escape albino that is slightly taller than a midget, she will not change bro, you’ll understand sad songs by their lyrics when she walks…

May you not be surrounded by people who only remember to holla at you when they need something; they don’t even remember your birthday but will call you all sorts of cool names when their data runs out or when they need transport fare to a non-existent interview.

May you not be unfortunate enough to look rich without actually being rich. May your perfume not send wrong signals to those that can help and may your drips not be misconstrued. Don’t stop looking good, but when they call you boss or chairman, remember to remind them that they didn’t employ or vote for you.

May you not jam those that can’t communicate properly and then assume nonsense which will eventually frustrate you out of sanity; they know what they want but will never say it like someone that has sense but when they’re talking to someone else you wonder if they suspend their brains around you…

May you not be kind to the wrong people. This is very possible, some will tell you to be nice to everyone and never expect returns when you do people favors, I kuku agree, but when you take loans to help someone and they end up blocking you danu danu for you to start repaying what you didn’t spend, you will understand why wisdom is profitable to direct.

May you not suffer wardrobe malfunction in public, may your nieces and nephews not ask you embarrassing questions, may the person you choose genuinely choose you too, may you not be a subject of ridicule, and most importantly... may they not see you finish. Nigeria will not happen to you...

She was my first friend at Brand Regimen, she knows her job and has this drive that won’t let her settle for anything below her standards.
