…It was the easiest of decisions to make, a scorned woman needs all the space in the world. Mercy was not only bitter, she was also vengeful and had points to prove, she had scores to settle but she decided to pull out something special from the “Sharon Stone” books, pure basic instincts.

After being released from Area H police station, three gruesome months behind bars for doing absolutely nothing wrong; she was accused of encroachment and threat to life, no one stood for her because she came back with nothing, all she worked for abroad sat with Karim who doesn’t even want to see her…

In September of 2019, Mercy traveled to Ife to see her son and that was the final straw. The barely six-year-old boy was right there on the main road begging for alms, Karim’s mother was about 100 meters away, sitting by a burnt shed; sending the poor boy on the streets was her only means of survival.

Most upcoming artistes had Karim’s name on their lips, he is a proven spender and Qdot, Zlatan and Small Doctor are a few of his beneficiaries; his mother doesn’t have a clue of his lavish lifestyle in the city, yet she spends her days praying for him… Mothers!

The old woman was full of pity, yet helpless as Mercy charged at her. People came in between them but not without some bruises on the helpless old lady; Mercy won the arguments and public sympathy, she returned to Lagos with her son same day but that was just the beginning of the drama.

Karim came out of nowhere to arrest Mercy’s parents in Lagos, he wanted his son back and I’m sure as you’re reading this, you’re wondering what gut he had to make such request but also, the Yorubas will tell you the child belongs to the father… Nonsense.

It didn’t take long for Mercy to show up with the child, she couldn’t sustain the drive with her parents in detention. Karim had all the money to drag the whole family and he was never quiet about it, always quick to remind them all that he’d wipe them out without questions from anywhere.

I forgot to describe Mercy, she’s never short of suitors as she’s a hybrid of Sharon Ooja and Toolz, the face of the former and the body of the latter but of course with the grammar of a semi-illiterate. There was this guy named Kunle that wanted to help, of course because he liked Mercy but it was complicated.

We know how impunity works in the Nigerian system, the one with the money will always rise above the poor in most cases and this wasn’t different. On the day Karim finally released Mercy’s parents, right as they got back to their house, Mercy’s mother slumped and passed away…
