The street is bleeding... Be safe

Dear reader, if you live in Nigeria, any part of Nigeria for that matter, please know this and know peace – your safety is 100% on you, you can’t be too careful.

A friend called me yesterday to share a new robbery style with me. He was fast asleep at about 1am around Egbeda area of Lagos. He heard the sound of a baby; the noise became so loud that everyone could hear it from distance and he was baffled.

It was right in front of his building, his fence is low with railing barricade so he could see what was going on outside. He peeped through his curtains and he could see some movement; each time the baby stops crying, someone triggers the cry again and the baby obliged.

After two hours of that episode, the person carried the baby and left the environment. I read something similar from all those recycled WhatsApp broadcasts recently but this happened to a friend just yesterday morning. Apparently, it’s a new style to get you to open your gate to rescue the baby so you can be robbed.

It’s election period, which means a lot of people at the top need serious money to compete. You have to be careful and watch every step. You can’t afford all those “miscreant waka” anymore, you’ll only have yourself to blame when it happens.

If you must hangout on those late night runs, make sure it is within your neighborhood. Make sure you tell people your whereabouts and share ride details if you’re taking bolt or Uber; the streets are slippery and the government won’t do anything about it.

When you’re in a public bus, be mindful of holding your mobile phone near the window. Stop discussing sensitive matters in a public bus or at a pub, you can’t be too careful. Be safe out there folks.
