Champions League final: Lessons from Real Madrid

This guy made the night for Real Madrid, he was their weapon as they managed everything Liverpool threw at them, I learned from it. (Photo credit: Sky Sports)

Real Madrid taught me a lesson last night and I think I should talk about it. First I’d love to congratulate them on winning the champions league, it’s a great feat and they more than deserved the great feeling they’re currently enjoying. Hala Madrid!

I saw many of their games, they were a nuisance in the group stages of the champions league; I think Real Madrid lost to one college team from Albania or so, I need to check but their name is Sherrif Tiraspol, who would have thought? Ruining tickets for boys on that occasion.

If you know anything about Real Madrid, they’re a different animal in the knockout rounds and that tells me something key about life. What is the essence of expending all the energy early only to gas-out early and then begin to manage the rest of whatever situation you’re in?

Okay, this is quite tricky as some might question the rationale behind throwing early risers/bloomers away but more often than not, it’s applicable and I can give some classic examples.

It’s important to conserve energy to give one the chance of a strong finish. Again, you can argue that all the job can be done with the energy you burn so early but what happens to the guy you’re fighting against that tries to contain your early “gra gra” only to hit you hard when you’re tired?

Why blow up all your savings early only to find out you have something important you need to spend money on later? There are some bills that won’t give you notice, they just show up rudely and whether you like it or not, you have to respond to them.

The latter is the reason why the rat race is harder for many. They spend their money as they earn it, only to depend on loan apps till another pay day; now guess what? When the pay comes, you pay the loan app first or risk major embarrassment, then you owe them again… It’s a cycle you don’t want to be thrown into.

Managing life situations systematically is the way to go, conserve your energy for a strong finish. In the event that you need to go all out, make sure you have an unassailable lead, if not, you’ll walk alone like the Liverpool boys of last night. God be with you.
